Hi,
I need a winter cycling jacket. I also need to have freedom of movement,
esp. in the shoulders. I drive a lot, and have a shoulder problem to deal with.
Of course, I want a bright color. And I need it to be really big.
I don't know of anyone who makes such a thing. I am thinking
of trying one of those $300 mountaineering shells you see skiers wear.
But they don't usually come in my size. A local dealer says Marmot
does a certain amount of custom work, so I might consider that as well,
but that would be very expensive. Any ideas?

Have you tried and tried out any jackets?
Mountaineering shells are usually designed a size up to accomodate stuff like, a full blown down jacket underneath the shell.
I wear a size M arcteryx windstopper fleece jacket. But my arcteryx shell (same company) is a size S and they both fit the same way. A size XL should be just fine for you. A plus is that the hoods are infinitely adjustable 3-4 ways and they're designed to accomodate helmets.

Jim,
thanks for the tip, I'll try to find a shop that carries them.

Slvoid,
I have tried on a few. The mountaineering shells are hideously expensive. That's the only real reason I haven't gotten one. I'll look for the Arcteryx shell, you don't see that brand up here much.

Hello,

A great jacket is the Col d'Lizard Ultrex jacket, $85. They have great support and I had to retrun mine when I first got it for sizing and no questions asked. It has XXL. You can email with questions before you buy, to see:

Another inexpensive jacket is the Marmot precip jacket that I use for hiking and not much for cycling. It is cheaper, $100, and I got mine from EMS. It is bulky, has pit zippers. and in limited bicycle use has done well.
