Up for sale is my custom Tim Sanner bicycle ("Big Tim"). This frame was made to replicate the early 90's Bridgestone RB-T, but with some minor difference for the purpose of modernization. It was also made to run wider tires than the original RB-T. This frame is made of a selection of Dedacciai double butted steel tubing, which is light but strong enough for loaded touring or mild trail work. The lugs are cast and it was silver brazed by Tim Sanner himself. I wanted something like my old Bridgestone RB-T but that would accept wider tires and fenders for riding the C&O trail here in Washington DC. I also wanted to be able to go on fully loaded tours without riding a heavy tank like the Surly Long-Haul Trucker or similar market offerings. I can take the racks off this thing and keep up with friends on club rides or I can load her up and ride across the country on roads and light trails. That's what I can versatile!

Here are some links for your research:

Tim Sanner is a custom frame builder and frame building teacher out of Austin, TX. He is known as one of the best in the country and his bicycles are beautiful The lug work on this bicycle is tight. Here is a link to TIm's website:

Dedacciai is an italian tubing specialist. The tubeset used on this bike is a mix of their offerings, to suit this bike's purposes. THis bicycle is VERY light but strong enough for loaded touring or light trail use. Here is a link to Dedacciai (I hope you can read Italian):

Also, I encourage you to google Bridgestone RB-T and read a little about this wonderful touring bicycle. Although my bicycle is not a Bridgestone, it was the inspiration in tube selection and geometry.

Sizes:
Seat tube: 59.5cm (center-to-center)
Top Tube: 58.5cm (center-to-center)
Standover: 33 1/4" or 84.5cm (top to floor)

Components:
I built "Big Tim" with an eye toward durability, functionality, and weight. Here are the components I selected:
Rear Derailleur - Shimano Deore XT
Front Derailleur - Shimano Deore XT
Bottom Bracket - Velo Orange, Grand Cru (I love the Velo Orange Grand Cru line. Check it out here: http://www.velo-orange.com/)
Headset - Velo Orange, Grand Cru
Crankset - Sugino XC pro 48/36/24, 175mm arms (I also have an XT crankset available if you want to keep the group consistent. I liked the looks of the Sugino much better)
Brakes - These are great brakes - they cost me a pretty penny - Pedersen Self Energizing SE-2000. They increase the power at higher speeds. Really cool brakes - I wouldn't be selling them if I didn't have another set in my shop!
Levers - Tektro R200A aero. These are great levers. They are modeled after Campagnolo Ergos.
Wheelset - Shimano Tiagra hubs, Velocity Dyad rims - 36h, DT Swiss double butted spokes
Tires Panaracer Tourgaurd 700c x 32mm
Shifters - Suntour ratcheting bar-cons (vintage New Old Stock (NOS)- THE best barcons, ever.
Handlebar - Velo Orange, Grand Cru classic bends - 44cm
Cables - Jagwire premium all around
Chain - SRAM PC870 - Best 8-speed chain out there. I can attest to it's durability.
Cassette - Shimano HG-50 11/32 "Hyperglide"
Bar Wrap - Salsa blue cork

Condition:
This bicycle looks brand new. Their are absolutely NO nicks, dents, dings, or other wise. The most recent build up (as described) was done last spring. Everything is lubed, like new, and ready to go. You'll need to do nothing to this to ride right now.

Notes:
I'm keeping my pedals, saddle, and water cages. I removed all the racks and bags for these pictures, but she certainly looks good loaded out fully. I'm selling to fund a frame building course with Doug Fattic, where I will make a similar frame and build that one up like this one! Otherwise, I'd keep "big Tim" forever. If you are in the market for a Surly Long Haul Trucker - LHT or similar market offerings, do yourself a favor and come test ride Big Tim before purchasing that tank. You'll be surprised how lively this frame is and how much lighter it is. Research the tubing - you'll find that the Italian Dedacciai tubing is very sought after, strong, and light. Particularly in comparison to the 4130 straight gauge used on the LHT. If you're in the market for a custom touring bicycle, you could save some precious dollars buying my bicycle. This frame set alone cost me more than my asking price.
PRICE= $1500 LOWERED to $1350 (4/9/2012)
LOCATION= Washington DC

Very fine looking. My size, and close by, to boot.

Sadly, I've no budget for such. Sigh.

Great deal for someone.

Thanks for the kind words! I think it's a great deal. It's so much nicer a touring rig than any of the market offerings at this pricepoint. You could do Bob Jackson, but you'd have more invested than my asking price for what I feel is still an inferior bike. But as far as bikes that could be found at the LBS, like the LHT, they don't even hold a match to the Tim Sanner.

How long are the chain stays?

+1

That'd be great information to know since the length of the chainstays is helpful to know for a touring bike.

I've built my replacement frame! Doug's class was fantastic.

This bike would make a great x-mas present for someone!

And BTW - the price has been lowered to $1350. I think this bike is a steal at that price.
