Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Low 40's, a bit misty, 6:00 am and dark.
Got out the trusty "Road Utility Bike" - the one with all the lights, rack, panniers, etc.
Pumped up those tires which have not been used all summer.
Put on some warm stuff:
Leg warmers
Arm warmers
under layer
long-sleeve jersey
wind breaker
long-fingered gloves
turned on the lights and out for a delightful ride.
I love those dark > getting lighter rides, quiet, no one much around.
Met one other bicyclist, also with a light.
That is my idea of fun.
Finished it all off with a swim at the rec center and a walk with the wife.
Temps are supposed to go up - too bad!!
Any other fans of cooler temps?

I love the cool temps too! I went on my hills ride to avoid the traffic and saw few other cyclists up on top. Isolated and loving it!

We had a hot week here in NYC this week.
For some reason I can't stand sweating once we get well into Sept. I'm done with it. I'm ready to put on the flannels already! Tommorrow it is supposed to get quite abit cooler, high of 70, and that should last well into the weekend. I can't wait! Should be great for riding.
Although I'll be crying about the cold in a month or two...

We had a preview of cool weather lately, but it was back to mid 90s today. Still not bad.

I love cool weather (lows in the 40s and highs in the upper 50s-60s) for just getting out and about; prefer the heat for cycling, at least over 70 F, preferably in the 80s. Maybe I just don't have enough cool-weather gear yet...
(We cooled down - into the 80s, from 90s and 100s - the past couple of weeks, and I got it in my head I only needed one bottle when I went out yesterday. It turned into a record high 99 degrees - not enough ice in the bottle, so half-way through, I was drinking warm water+gatorade, and ran scary-low by the end of the ride. It was the hottest/most unwell I felt on the bike all summer. Learned a pretty valuable lesson...)

About another month, probably, until it cools off here in sunny FLA. It's a little cooler in the morning since the sun is rising later, but we're still in the upper 80s and lower 90s by the end of the day. I'll be thinking of you folks during the glorious days of November, and then again in the sunny days of March.

Snow level is now down to 8,500 feet in the mountains tonight.
None predicted here, though.
Autumn has long been my favorite season.

I don't mind the cooler temps, just that it often seems like someone hit a big red switch, Monday my wife spent a hot day at the beach, yesterday we were talking about turning the heat on, it's 16℃ (61℉) in the house this morning, more then double the outside temperature of 7℃ (45℉). This time of year, you resist as long as you can turning the heat on, especially when you pay your own heat... I know resistance is futile, and I think I'll probably fire it up when I get home from work tonight 15℃ (59℉) is the cut off point, below that and I fire it up anyway.....

Headlights, tail lights, arm warmers, leg warmers, tights, long sleeve jerseys, jackets, balaclava, gloves, foot warmers... cold weather sucks (and cooler temps are a harbinger thereof). Bah Humbug!

Just starting to ride again after years of not. Ordered lights for my bike yesterday because it will start getting dark by the time I get home from work. Want to ride as much as I can this Winter.
Why the arm and leg warmers? So you can pull them off I suppose. Do I really need these things or will long pants and long shirt sleeves work for me. Oh, talking about the Sand Hills of North Carolina. Not extreemly cold but does get below freezing during the Winter months.
Thanks

Same here. I'll take a warm, sunny day anytime.

38 miles, beautiful day. 48F in am, started out with several layers, etc., Took most off within an hour as it started to warm up.
I live in Wisconsin where we have 6 months of winter, so cold riding is mandatory here. LOL I'm a newbie and wanted to know what can I wear and not sweat too much and still stay warm.
Thank you,

I'm a big fan of the cool weather too. Unfortunately, the cool that arrived here last night was accompanied today by a gloomy sky and a pretty gusty wind, which made the riding a bit less enjoyable. More of the same appears to be due tomorrow with precip in the afternoon. I will be done with riding by then though.

Lows in the mid/low 50sF, highs in the 70s/80F last week, which is pretty unusual for us this early. We went from record high in August to record low after Labor Day after TS Lee came through. It's not fully back to where it was, but there will be days that top out in the 90s still, I suspect. Still, that's better than August. We don't get cold winters here in the deep south (temps bottom out in the teens at lowest), but quite often they're very wet. Maybe that's why I pine for a naturally dry climate. :-)
Spring and autumn are my favorite seasons but all too brief, IMO.
But yeah - Cooler temps are very welcome right now, whatever they may be. :thumb:
