I live in Ocean County, NJ, now, and grew up in Trenton, NJ, and in the past have lived in central Ohio, in Kansas City, MO, and Lawrence, KS, and in Seattle. I've been bicycling for over 50 years, in all those places, and also as a tourist in Greece and in Holland. I've never tried to go very far or very fast, i.e. no racing or long distance trips. I just use the bike for transportation and fun. For 5 years I had no car, and got around only by bike, so I used to go camping on it, with a pup tent and sleeping bag and cooking gear, but only overnight, at a lake not too far outside the city.
Now I usually don't ride more than 10 or 20 miles at a time, and most days not more than 5 or 10 miles. But every time I ride I still get as much kick out of it as when I first rode without training wheels. It still feels like flying. It's no accident that the first airplane was built by bicycle mechanics.
I've always maintained my own bikes, and there are always some things I can't figure out, even with Sheldon Brown's web site and all the other stuff on the internet. So that's why I've joined the forum, to ask technical questions.
