Wife had the afternoon planned so had to do pie ride early. Couldn't get the bike and the pie in the same picture, but did overlay picture of computer to verify I did the requisite distance to offset the calories. Hot apple pie with cinnamon ice cream. Never saw cinnamon ice cream any place else except "Kings", but it sure is good on hot apple pie.

For the first time, I am going to have to take a postponement.
Wife is ill, and I was up a lot last night, not feeling well also.
I did about 40 miles yesterday, and may have to cheat and count that - or get it in next week,
Grrr!

Rode 15 miles to Marie Callender's, had Blueberry pie (the official pie of the Fifty+ subforum), and biked back. Hoped the combination of a ride and a leather seat would tempt the rain gods (Austin needs it), but alas, no rain.

We rode, round trip, 33 miles to Mullica Hill, NJ to an Amish Farm Market. Light rain for a short part of the ride, but we pushed forward on our mission.
I had blueberry, of course, and TheMister had some sort of berry combo.
NOS88: I am sorry to report I didn't eat an extra slice for you, however, the slice I ate was certainly big enough for the two of us!
No photos of the bikes, as there was no outdoor seating. I'm not sure about this as I didn't test them, but I believe the Amish may be a bit fussy about allowing bikes (and buggies) in their markets. Just a hunch.

Arrrrugh, you wouldn't beleive how hard it is to find PIE, in Colorado Springs!!!:notamused: Cakes, Cheese Cake, Pasitries, ect. abound but it's like there's a complete conspricy against PIE! After checking out several eatries, we FINALLY found one downtown with PIE.
A really good Apple Pie, luckly so we decided to have lunch then pie, well it was still "breakfast" so we had PIE first and waited for 20 mins. for Lunch! :thumb: Sorry the photo is so poor, it's our crummy cell phone cams. The photo is my wife JoLynn, showing off the prize, Mileage 18 miles. For some reason my cellphone wouldn't take a photo of ME:rolleyes: Alas the bike had to be put in a bike rack to far out to get it in the photo. SUCCESS!:D

short ride, just over 15 - had to work at the company picnic this morning and the two places nearby with good pie close somewhat early. Biked to the Countryside Cafe and had a dynamite peach pie. I was the last person in the place before closing so they were cleaning up around me. uuummmm good. more miles tomorrow. kind of a birthday treat for myself. 60 yesterday

No ride today but I did attend a bike celebration:) They were celebrating the 20th year of the Little Miami Scenic Trail at the Xenia Station in Xenia, Ohio. Nice turnout and most people were on their bikes.
I overdid a ride earlier this week and need to take a few days off the bike:( No pie either:(

Cloudy, cool day, 26 miles down with a slight headwind, 26 miles back with a little stronger tailwind. Got sprinkled on a few times. Had my first spill in 7 years of riding (not counting a user induced error into a ditch whilst battling 4 mutts); was crossing a steep angled RR crossing, and tire slipped out when it hit the rail. Went down on my side, guy behind me endo'ed trying to avoid running over my head. A few bruises, a couple minor scrapes. Continued the ride to the pie shop, gotta keep the priorities straight...
Pies consumed: Coconut Creme, Apple Crisp, and Ozark Berry.

219173I had to work today so my ride into work was my Pie Ride. It is 15.47 miles one way so I made it in over the 15 mile mark. :)
There are no places along the way that sell pie, so I made an apple pie yesterday , put a nice slice in a tupperware and tucked that into my back pack along with my shoes & clothes.

My ride home this evening was 15.47 miles also, so I think I am well within the rules to consider that a completely separate ride and cut myself an other slice of pie. :innocent:

Think of it as the slice "we" had. It was delicious, but I was distracted from my pie when TheMister asked someone to take our picture while we were eating. I was reluctant to smile for fear of having blueberries all over my teeth! :o

I learned the last time I did a pie ride in the ol'hometown that there is no pie to be found unless I want Denny's apple pie. I don't like apple pie. So, I did 19.6 smiley miles and enjoyed every one of them. Props to Mr S. She knew it was pie day and brought home a little, tiny, boxed "Old Fashioned Lemon Pie". That's why I married her. Pie was good, too, but kinda small. I took a pic, I'll try to post it soon. Sometimes I hate this town :bang:

Had to leave house first to buy some pie. Got a so called premiere brand cherry pie, cause quite frankly I prefer cherry to blueberry. Suited up and rode an unexpected 32 miles. So two pieces for me. Unfortunately despite being rained on for last 8 miles, ride was great, but pie not so much. Will try a pie recovery ride tomorrow and dig into the apple pie I also bought.
I don't know what it is, but this thread has been one of the most enjoyable ones for me to read in a long time. You folks are just too cool. :thumb:

Late ride due to waiting for a couple of other riders and the weather. This morning was out due to rain and a bit of wind. Went to Fuscardi's again on the seafront but NO Blueberry. I thought they closed at 7PM and we got there about 6 only to find that this week they changed closing time to 6. So it was grab What they had left which for me was a Pecan slice- the nearest to a Fruit Pie they had- except for Apple that I had earlier in the week and didn't fancy again.

Say it ain't so. I thought you lived within a short ride of the Davenport Cash Store, or a longer one of Santa Cruz - or all the Half Moon Bay bakeries? Have I got my distances wrong? Or, worse, my future residence plans? No Pie? I'm worried

Oh yeah, I remember reading your post about winning the bike. My wife said she liked it as soon as she got in the saddle of it. I told her, if you like it; it must be a good fit. Thanks for the good wishes! :)
I did the Bob Galloway Memorial Amish Country Ride in Arthur, IL, with an old friend. I had intended to earn my pie by doing the 60-mile route, but he's been having some health and mobility issues, so I stayed alongside him to help encourage him through the 20-mile loop. We had already registered for the official post-ride Mennonite meal of chicken and noodles, green beans and bread and butter, plus a variety of desserts, among which was this piece of apple pie, consumed by yours truly:
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp129/cburgess54/IMG_0827.jpg
They also had this stuff they called "Amish butter" to put on the bread - a mix of peanut butter, honey and marshmallow fluff:
http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/pp129/cburgess54/IMG_0828.jpg
Then we spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out in Champaign, where we finished the day with my own favorite "pie" from Papa Del's:

CraigB,
The Amish know their food, don't they? When we walked into the Amish Market we visited, I was overwhelmed by all the smells of food and wished I had some way to carry home some of the other goodies they were offering. I have promised myself a trip back with the backseat of my Yaris in the down position and void of my bike!

They do for sure. Unfortunately, that kind of comfort food without the accompanying laborious lifestyle would be deadly for me. I'll have to settle for a return to ride again next year, and see if my old friend's health has improved enough for us to range farther afield. It was a fun ride, if flat as the proverbial pancake. Lots of horse-drawn buggies to watch out for, and their attendant road "debris," and many, many smiling faces and friendly greetings. The route also took a scenic little turn through Chesterville, IL, where we found an old, old cemetery along the banks of the Kaskaskia River, with the grave of a reputed "Chesterville Witch" in the form of a huge old oak tree with a wrought-iron fence around it. Legend says if the tree is ever cut down, or if it ever dies, she'll come back to haunt the Amish men of the area:

I rode but no pie. My wife's 90 year old mom called at 2am Saturday morning telling my wife she had fallen and cut her scalp. My wife headed over and took her to ER to get it stapled shut. She didn't get her mom home and in bed till 5am so wasn't too keen on the idea of riding. And as my wife was the one who did the research on the pie spots, I didn't feel right going without her. Did manage a nice 20 mile ride while she napped. Hopefully we'll do a makeup ride soon.

Sure didn't. There were a lot of people, and our pace was slow enough that we never did "synch" with any other riders.

Fully intended to take the camera and get pie but woke up feeling a little sick, so I ended up doing a 40ish mile club ride which was too fast to enjoy it all.
There was one stop at a market so I had a cinnamon and caramel muffin that was made of flaky dough and baked to perfection.

I appreciate your positive approach. I'm certainly in the game, if that's all it takes. I spend 'mucho tiempo' cycling, riding for hours at a time for the sheer joy of it.
As it turns out, there are but a handful of earnest riders in my immediate locale. But these are hardcore Rulesmen... they don't ride for fun, as they are The Cyclists. These are the skinny, white-collar guys motorists complain about.
In their esteem, pie is for *******. HTFU.
A town or two over, there is a small group of fun riders. There is hope among their number. But from my experience with them, they mostly just toodle along the MUP in the afternoon and yuk it up. Pie is definitely in their minds, but really riding with a purpose? Well, not so much.
In the end, I'll have to compromise if I'm to find social cycling among these two groups. If there is a third group of fellow enthusiasts, somewhere between slow casual and hardcore, I haven't found them. The search goes on.

Friday night I was up sick most of the night.
Saturday, I couldn't and didn't hardly move, which is MOST unusual for me. Sat in the chair all day.
Sunday was a bit better - got a walk in for a couple of miles.
So, I had my "pie ride" today.
33 miles withi a 40 minute swim in the middle.
Here is the odometer:

Here is the BLUEBERRY pie and ice cream!!
My pie ride was to scout the Columbia Trail from High Bridge to Long Valley, NJ to see if it was still OK after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. My round trip (http://ridewithgps.com/trips/395073) was 23 miles and I had lunch at the Long Valley Pub and Brewery which included some cheese pie (http://groth2010.princeton.edu/~groth/random_pics/bikerides/rides_sep2011/Rides_Sep_2011_21.shtml) (OK it was cheese cake on the menu but the closest thing they had to pie). This photo is part of a web site (http://groth2010.princeton.edu/~groth/random_pics/bikerides/rides_sep2011/rides_sep_2011.shtml) documenting Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee damage observed on my rides the past few weeks. (Plus a ride in Wisconsin!)

So, I forgot about pie on Saturday, but I did ride 36 miles. On Sunday, I rode 50.9 miles with one flat on the rear, then went out for dinner with the wife, except the restaurant had no pie. We then went to the store and purchased a blueberry pie and some Vanilla Bean ice cream and enjoyed desert at home. The pie was actually pretty good, but doesn't compare to a bakery in the town 14 miles away, which is where I'll ride next time.
This is my first road bike (and pie ride); it has a steel frame with 105 components and so far, the bike has been great. I've put 1453 miles on it since May 28th.
