Hi,
I've noticed that users here often post inappropriate content and use vulgarity(frequently circumventing the profanity filters) in their posts and get away with it. I know that I should report such behaviour(because staff can't review each and every post), but I find it useless for 2 reasons:
1. In threads where users seem to be violating the guidelines in the ways mentioned above, I sometimes see staff posting(on the same page as the bad posts) without any action being taken on the problematic posts.
2. I have seen inappropriate content posted by an administrator in the Foo. I did not dare to report that post because it was made by an admin.
I'll link you to it: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/762731-I-think-I-m-becoming-a-troll?p=13131981&highlight=#post13131981

I am not disturbed by these occurences, but they have been puzzling me, especially the second one.
And yes, I am sure that inappropriate content is unwelcome, because I've noticed(on the ban thread in the "News & Announcements" forum) that some users have been banned for posting it.
What's the explanation?

P.S. I am not here to make life harder for any of the staff.

Because we can't be everywhere at one time. If it doesn't get reported, often we just don't see it in the sheer number of posts we get every day. Our moderator staff is volunteer......they don't get paid to do it....they do it to make the community run as smoothly as possible. They also have jobs, etc, that they have top actiually work at to pay the rent and put food on the table. ;)

Hi,

2. I have seen inappropriate content posted by an administrator in the Foo. I did not dare to report that post because it was made by an admin.

Just to let you know, nobody was banned because of either one of those images. If you were here a while ago, you would know that both of those images are avatars of two of our members who have passed away. A lot of people know each other by their avatars as well as the screen names. Seeing those images bring upon fun and memorable times of when they were alive and posting.

Because this forum is international, there is an array of personalities, cultures and differing opinions on what is crossing the line and what is not. We try our best to be on cue about what does and does not offend others but also understand that what may be offensive in one culture may not be to another. And we do have to walk gently in respect to that. With a membership as large as ours (we are the cycling site with the largest membership) we cannot watch each and every post.

The two images that I posted have never been reported as offensive since I have been here as staff.

If you feel that a staff member has made an offensive post, please do not hesitate to report it. We are not exempt from the rules or guidelines - as a matter of fact - we are held more strictly to it BECAUSE we are staff. The report gets reviewed, discussed and handled accordingly by the moderation team.
