Hello all :) My name is Matt. I am a 20 year old college student and part time ruby on rails web application developer in Florida.
I am new to the biking scene. I realized that sitting on a computer for multiple hours a day banging out code does not make for the healthiest lifestyle. I needed a hobby that got me active, in High school I played soccer.. but with college and the weird hours I work I needed something that I could decide to do whenever I felt like it. queue biking!
I researched a bit and decided to get a nice used bike instead of just dropping a large amount of cash for a beginner bike. So I found a nice Trek 850 mountain bike with Shimano components on craigslist for $50!
I quickly scooped it up, went to the bike shop and got some road tires to replace the mountain bike ones. I'm pretty sure I also got a deal on the tires. the packaging said $35 right above the bar scan code on each tire.. but both were only $42 when I was rung up. I also got a handlebar mirror, as I plan on riding through the city and a helmet.
In total I spent roughly $140. not bad methinks. Today was my first day riding in ages but I did pretty well, a total of 9 miles! now I can't wait to get out of school and go riding again tomorrow.
