I think this disgusting.. Champagne should be consumed, certainly not used to embarrass Podium Girls.. Wasting champagne.. Maybe it was of British origin..
Who votes dunking podium girls is something a tour winner should do.. ? I vote no. Its not funny in the least..

Btw, have you ever seen an F1 podium or nfl/nba/mlb/nhl post championship locker room? How do you feel about christening ships? They've built a lot of ships ya know.

I've seen one stage podium event some years back.. It wasn't the last day of the pro tour however. I didn't see anything like this. Just jubilant cyclists trouncing one another with the bubbly.. Not the podium girls..

I wouldn't say 'sole purpose'. Often they have to help direct the tired and slightly dazed award winners to the proper podium step and stage exit.
