Well, Raleigh BBs are English threaded so no problem there! You should be able to put a sealed bottom bracket in provided that the right size BB is available. Standard diameters are 68 and 73 mm, and various lengths are available. It all depends on what year the frame was made because Raleigh had their own thread pitch in the early years check Sheldons page for more info http://www.sheldonbrown.com/raleigh26.html

Had a look, at the $ 50.00 price range would I get a good quality bb.

$50!? Yeah, definitely! I've never paid more than $30 for a square-taper BB (I know
some of the fancier cranksets use more expensive BBs).
The Shimano UN-72/73 BBs have worked fine for me. I have used them on at least 3 bikes and haven't had any problems.

Leigh has a good point. I looked at Sheldon's page and it says that if your Raleigh bike has cottered cranks (the crankarms have what looks like a nail or screw sticking through the base), then it has a different thread pitch and is INCOMPATIBLE WITH MODERN BOTTOM BRACKETS.

Think Im good to go everythimg that was on it is Exage Motion. Except the brakes there shamano. No cotter pin.

Phil wood sells adaptor rings that allow use of cartridge BBs in Raleigh 26 tpi threaded BBs.

Ive been trying to get a fix on the year of this bike but have come up dry. Ive had a look at every Raleigh from 80 to 89 but have not found a frame that looks like it. The top of the forks are rounded and at the back its a single post coming down not two with a piece welded in for the back brake. Kinda like a mtn bikes back end. The only one Ive found that looks like it is the 2004 team racing frame but its carbon fiber. It has the steel badge on it that just says "The Raleigh" Before I sanded it to bare metal it was black metal flake. Its decals were rough and hard to read. the bars that were on it are modolo flash, watomic design, made in Italy. probably the lightest Ive ever held.The seat post is SR laprade. Found out the shamano makes the exage motion cranks but not the year they started making them. Well here I am any ideas. thanks 99
