i bought a set of campagnolo vento wheels from a member on this forum.

They are very similar to the ones on this pictures except with a geared hub.

The wheels looked like they were in decent condition when i took them out of the box. they were straight, not perfectly straight but straight. The cosmetic condition was good as well, so i ended up putting them away for the last month or two.

I went to mount them on a project frame to see how they'd look and when i spun them i hear particles of aluminum or metal bouncing inside the hollow rims. I'm definitely not happy that this was not stated in the description of the item.

Have any of you had luck with removing the particles, he told me to just put some grease inside the rim, but i don't think i should do that.

How many other people have this problem with these rims?

What could the shavings be from?

Drilling shavings from the rim after manufacturing? I had some Weinmann veeps that had that, I tried to see if I could shake them out of the spoke holes. After trying a few minutes, they were still there. Sealed them in with some rim tape. No problems since

If you have an air compressor, use a blow gun tip to blow the bits out through the valve hole.

I have the same issue with my modern Zonda's. It was noticeable while the rims just sat there, but after all the rim tape, tubes and tires were applied it stopped. Not a big deal.

Haven't had the problem with my Ventos, but truly have never looked or tested.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were present, both in those and my Cosmic Elites.
I have heard it in other wheels, and inside a couple of frames with cable routed through.

Noise or not, I'd love to have them.

Have you tried putting a piece of duct tape in one of the holes, whatever is in there will get stick to the tape, worth to try.

I had same issue with my Mavic CP30's. spent about an hour
blowing it out with canned air and shaking the rims to try to dislodge
the shavings. It was pretty easy before I built up the rims.

Well, the sound stops as soon as the wheel is spinning a few mph. I had a nipple fall into the rim, and used some sticky tape by the valve hole to snag it. It was hard to fish it out.

Campy makes a tool for nipples, basically a magnet. For filings, that obviously wouldn't work.

This is very common to many types of rims, something probably just became loose during shipping. I don't think anyone is to blame, this is a sound I hear on many of my wheels but it can only be heard if you are playing around with the wheels, never when riding. I have a couple of frames that have bits of stuff floating around in them too, I only notice it when they are being moved into and out of the stand or a car or something.

I have the same thing on my Ventos. I hardly notice it, and is probably common with the wheel.

i want to remove the nipples and try to get rid of the shaving, has anyone successfully done this? on the campy rims?

Hi, if this same problem with you, maybe you can try. I've, experienced sound like a bearing problem that is broken or missing one. but after I open, the inside of the bearings in a dry state. then I gave a liquid lubricant and the problem is gone.

hopefully can help

Yeah, I think this can still work, put some grease on the inside of the rim where the tire valve would go and then spin the wheel. The loose stuff should catch on the grease and then you can remove it.
