Hello all,
Wanted to introduce myself. I'm 24, from Orange County, California, and recently decided to start commuting to work. After all, we have great weather here in Southern California!
I don't really have too much of a bicycling background, and I haven't been on a bike in almost 8 years, but my new position as an Americorps volunteer has placed me at a job site that's only 3 miles from my work. Looking at the obvious fitness and financial benefits of commuting by bike, I recently decided to pick up a bike and give it a try.
The bike I picked up was from Craigslist. It belonged to a college aged bike enthusiast, and he definitely did some peculiar things to it. It was supposedly a full sized Bianchi road frame that was cut in half, had a middle portion of the frame removed, then welded back together so its around 2/3 of the original size. Before I installed wider handlebars, I could remove the quick release front tire and then fit it into my trunk! When I brought it into a bike shop to have it tuned up and some parts installed, the mechanics definitely did a double take. According to them, a portion of the frame was flipped upside down before it was welded back together? I have no idea if that's true or not, but that's what they said. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow if you guys want to see it.
Anyways, thats a quick little bio about me. If any of you want to talk to a newbie about commuting, bike safety, gear/bike recommendations, bike fixing tips, or non-profit work, I'm always up for a chat :thumb:
