Bicycle Mechanics - Suggestions on a upgraded Seatpost for my Roadbike?

I am looking at upgrading to a better quality more up to date seatpost

It is a 26.6 mm seatpost which is becoming hard to find

I have looked at Ritchey, Bontrager, and Fizik and the smallest I have seen are 27.2

So any recommendations?

It only has one job, keep the saddle from falling off. If it does that there's not much room for improvement. Other than saving weight, replacing a working post may be the least improvement possible for dollars spent.

However if you have dollars to burn, I have new some 26.6 Thomson posts, in 250mm or 330mm silver or black, and I'd be happy to take those excess dollars off your hands. email me at the chain-L site if interested.

Thomsons are great seatposts but most of them have zero setback and if your saddle is now installed fairly far back on a set-back seatpost the Thomson may not let you get it far enough back.

Thomson does make a "set back" seatpost but they get there by bending the post itself so you are somewhat limited as to how far you can insert it into the frame. You need 90-100 mm of exposed post to keep the bend above the seattube. Also, their setback post is not available in all diameters so that limits it's usefulness.

FB has it right. Unless your seatpost is broken or you are building up a new frame, there is very little to be gained by replacing it.

If you have a straight seat post with a seperate seat clamp I could see upgrading to a new seat post with a microadjust clamp for better adjustability. Other than that, if it ain't broke.....

Kalloy makes a seatpost in all normal diameters, modest priced.

Brompton , the British Folding Bike Company, makes an excellent
stepless micro-adjustable saddle clip.. its about $30 mostly aluminum,so light
as if that matters.. sold thru Brompton dealers and Wallbike in NO LA,
who stock them for their Brooks saddle using connoisseurs .
