Cyclocross - CX Pedal advice

I am just starting out , have got a CX bike and looking for some CX pedals (at the moment I am using some spare Time road pedals, which I already know is definately not a good choice)

Time Atac Alium Pedals seem to have been around for along time and have good reviews. Are these a good starting point

or you can wait for the speedplay syzr that's coming

I would absolutely go with ATAC Aliums. There's a reason the design hasn't changed much in the last ten years: because it's awesome. Sheds mud like Teflon, insanely simple, nigh-impossible to break, not too heavy. They're great pedals.

I hear Speedplays shed mud pretty well too, but I've never tried those.

Eggbeaters (Crank Brothers).

What about Speedplay Frogs? I'm considering those to replace my SPD setup. Thoughts?

There's a front derailleur somewhere under that clump of mud and grass above the chain. Compare that to the pedal.

I like the new Egg Beater 2's. I've put 2000 miles and a dozen or so races on a pair I got last year and they are still spinning smoothly.

Where i live(south east) it is pretty dry in the fall so i am running shimano SPDs. I find them faster to clip into than cbs candys. I just like they way the shimanos feel. I have never heard anything bad about the time pedals and if you are loyal to them, then get some.

+1 on the Eggbeaters. If the tiny little pedal part is intimidating, get the Candy's

SPDs work fine, if there is no mud.

I have team mates who swear by Time ATACs

They key to clipping in to any new pedal is practice.

Eggbeaters shed mud far better than the shimano's I once had. My first muddy race the shimano's clogged up and were useless. I switched to egg beaters the next day out of frustration and I have not had any issues. Look at the pros....a LOT are on eggbeaters. Its not just sponsorship either these guys want to win and pedal choice can make the difference.

Eggbeaters are great for me. That is, after 2 seasons of struggling to clip back in then discovering that the plastic shim that comes with the cleats really works well on Sidi's.:D
