Hey everybody,

I've been keeping my eyes out for an older steel MTB to pick up for a commuting bike. I haven't been able to find any on Craigslist, or any decent ones around town, so I'm thinking about picking up a Specialized Sirrus Sport. I've found one on Craigslist for really cheap ($125) and depending on whether or not it fits the bill, will go check it out.

I'll be riding in some wet weather and would like to ride this winter too. Would it fit the bill, or should I wait till another bike comes along?

Thanks!

Looks like it would work fine as a commuter

just doing an image search, it's impossible to tell how easy it would be to mount fenders. However, at that price I could probably live with a cobbled together approach to fenders.

Take a look at it in person. Price sounds good.

I've got one, it's a really fun bike to ride.
It'll take fenders just fine. I'm running SKS fenders on mine. It'll take a rear rack as well, but you'll have to share the mounting hole at the bottom with the fenders. Not a big deal at all, you'll just need a longer bolt.

For that price, you can't really go wrong unless it's too small, so take a look at it in person if you can.

Thanks for the replies! I went over, checked it out, and brought it home. I feel like I got a great deal ($115), and the bike is in great shape. I just need to do a little work on it, and it'll be all set to go. I'll post some pictures of it soon. Thanks! Now I can finally leave my car in the driveway and use this to get to work and around town.
