Foo - On my way to the Clyde forum rant (or the "Where should I move to next?" thread)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Not that there's anything wrong with Clydes (get that outta the way;))
I'm up to 177...never weighed that much before. I walk the dogs daily on streets that have either no sidewalks or narrow sidewalks that run within a few feet of crazy traffic. I biked just three times in the 2 months I've been in this Greenville suburb, largely because I am basically convinced that I'll become a statistic. Greenville's suburbs have no shoulders, high speed inattentive drivers, and no interconnecting sidestreets to avoid said drivers. Chalk that up to poor foresight, a fast-growing area, ignorant city planners and real estate developers, etc. Apparently all of Greenville's burbs are like this. The city of Greenville is unaffordable to me...and not much better. Sucks cuz I like the new job and the coworkers.
I'm thinking northwest a few states. Indiana, maybe Iowa. I've only lived in four states. Maybe it's time to hit them all? Packin' up the hounds and hittin' the road as soon as my house sells, which looks to be soon.
Carry on :D

Oh, wait... wrong thread.
Um, I know I have a reputation to uphold, but nothing everything I utter is a lie.
Ooops, just saw your

What do you do for a living? Cycling, hiking and almost all manner of outdoor sports are in abundance here in the PNW. Heck, we've even got crazies who don drysuits and surf the winter shorebreak.
I escaped Ohio for Seattle and haven't regretted the decision.

Are you related to the Malachi "crunch" brothers?

If your heart is in Wisconsin, why not back (t)here? Not that I can say too much...I live in Wisconsin, with my heart in Maine...

No, but I am related to the Fonzarelli clan.

20 yrs as a diesetter in the metal stamping biz...mostly for the auto manufacturers. Not sure how much blue collar work is in the PNW but I've admired many facets of that region. How do the PNW roads, and drivers respect towards cyclists compare to those in OH? I loved rural cycling just as much as utility/commute cycling in WI. The latter is simply not safe in this part of SC.
One of the LBS hosted a recent visit from Mia Birk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDgts2YSRNg). I hadn't heard of her until then but she helped transform Portland into the superbly cycling-friendly city it is today. However, I was told that Portland used to be like Greenville is now. Hard to believe. On the bright side, Greenville is trending in the right direction. I can't fathom how long it would take to bring this area up to a respectable level but it's nice to know the gears are turning.

Back to WI or almost anywhere in the midwest would be welcome.
Head West.
Now that I can pretty much guarantee. I am presently just 3 1/2 hours from the right coast.

I think I'd go with the joe gardner method. I hate myself for not doing it a few years ago when I had the chance.
Not too far west, though. California is full. Sorry.
Full of what?

I'll trade with you. I even have a house you can buy! Even better, you can buy my house and I'll move to the northern part of the right coast. Heck, if I was rich, I'd give you the house just so I can move back to New England. Sorry, I'm not rich, just homesick :(

At 177, you have a long way to go before you join the ranks of a Clyde!
