Any of you played it yet?

I'm gonna wait till it's not $50.00. I heard it's pretty good though. Plus I think I need a faster processor.
My husband plays it ever night for a few hours. he loves it..

I was really really looking forward to it, and especially to Counterstrike 2, when they get that together. I'd said I would wait to upgrade my computer until HL2 came out. Then I bought a bicycle, and a motorcycle, and a whole pile of other stuff. So no computer upgrade, and no Half Life 2 for me for quite some time :( - oh well, the motorcycle kicks HL2's ass.
I used to play unreal more than I studied while I was in college.
Then I bought unreal tournament from the bargin bin for $10. I've now graduated to unreal tournament 2003 for also $10.
I think gogamer had it for $39 on their ater Thanksgiving Sale.

Im waiting until the game is around $30, not the $50 - $60 I have seen so far.

I don't see the game going to the bargin bin real soon....it's just too good, but you might get lucky and find some decent sales.
Here is a tweak guide for those who have it http://www.tweakguides.com/HL2_1.html

I'll buy it after I upgrade my video card, from a GF2 MX400.
Rest of my system is fine for it - Athlon64 3000+, 512MB PC-3200, 80GB drive

You know, for 50 bucks, you'd think the cheap bastards could at least put the discs in a jewel case rather than these stupid sleeves. Oh, and does anybody remember manuals?

My computer could probably run it, but not well, so I'm going to wait. More importantly, though, I will wait for Day of Defeat: Source to be finished and for the price to drop. I couldn't spend $50 on a one-week single-player game.

I havent played HL2 yet, but i played vampire the masquerade: bloodlines....it uses the same engine.
Only problem is I noticed stuttering at some parts of the game. i ehard that a patch will soon be out for HL2, so I think it's an engine issue since VtM:B has that issue as well.
other than that, it runs very nicely on my system at 1280x1024.
system listing so you knnow what the game was being run on.
athlon xp 2500
DFI NFII ultra motherboard (NForce2 MCP chipset)
radeon 9800 pro 128mb
1 gig of ram.

A big HL2 update went out tonight as well as the offical release of HL2 DM so it's no longer a single-player game :D

sweet so vampire should have it's patch soon. That stuttering gets very annoying, espcially in combat, where my hands are basically in macro mode, and I have to stop and figure out where I was when the stutter happened....usually ends with my guy getting turned into a little splatter on the ground with fangs.

What are y'all running for settings? e.g. antialiasing, detail level, filtering, etc

AA and AF set to "application preference" (means usually it's off)
AA method is "performance"
truform is off
vsync off
all other sliders are set to max quality. 32bpp 60hz refresh...like refresh matters to me, I'm using a DVI TFT display.

Forgive me, but I'm new to "Steam" and the way it works. Wouldn't it be a bit difficult to transfer the game to another user, with all of the activation that takes place with Steam?
Yeah, that's another concern of mine. I typically buy games that have a high replay value like Warcraft 3's multiplayer and flight simulators such as x-plane. The last first person shooter I bought, Call of Duty, I only played through twice. Every time I play online I get motion sickness. So, I don't play it anymore.
I'm thinking of getting World of Warcraft but that requires a $15 per month pay to play deal. I don't like those.

After doing a bit of reading on Steam's website it seems that the games CdKeys or Product keys are bound to the Steam User Account and cannot be transfered to another account, so you would have to sell the user account and give up any games bound to that user account.
I did find where Steam does have a Retail CDKey reset option, but it cost $10.00 USD so this would have to be taken into account for the buyer and seller of the product.

Having played many MMOs now, I still vouch for how fun a good one can be.
However, I do get pretty angry about the time-sinkish nature of them as they grow to maturity. Everquest 1 for example....almost any quest now is a multi-day affair...while Eeverquest 2, you can still do quests that can take 10 mins...
Timesinkns can kiss my saddle-imprinted butt.

I'll let you know. I don't think he thought about that. He is going to try and trade it in at EB today. They give you somethinglike $15.00 for new games if you have all the manuals and the CD's are in tact..
EB won't take it back in trade for precisely the reasons stated above. That really SUCKS
