Here's my Country Bike, and I love it.

Got the bike for $80 off CL. It is a late 80's Performance cross/touring bike. It was heinous teal green.

Had it powder coated for $50 and $5 for the stem.

Replaced what I had too but tried to keep as many original parts as possible.

It has 35mm Panaracer tourguard folding tires and room to spare.

My preferred riding "kit" is usually Chuck Taylors or flip-flops, baggy shorts and t-shirt and of course I would never go out with out some kind of head protection so it's either a tweed cap or a hand-made bike cap.

It's heavy so what, and it's supremely comfortable.

It's in the friction shifting mode now and that's where it's gonna stay.

It's got Suntour bio-pacey type rings, which I don't really notice much.

Yes, I have drank the Kool Aid of Grant P. and VO and have to say this type of bike and style of riding is so flipping awesome.

Make up a "country ride story", you've got a captive audience.

Thanks for the story. I like it; though my own taste is definitely for "silver" components over black. Tange Infinity is a nice tubeset -- we have a Nishiki Prestige here that has a very comfortable ride. And I bet your bike is not so heavy, either.

I'm in the camp. Have a Surly LHT that I built up in the Riv-Vo aesthetic. Comfy but still athletic.

Beautiful bike, I'd fall in love with it too! I have a bike in that identical heinous teal green also and I don't blame you one bit for wanting to change it, but the color matched stem was pretty cool.

Nice job on the transformation. Very pretty ride. I actually thought the original paint was in great condition and looked good. Only the decals were unappealing. Made it look dated. You have some sweet Suntour running gear!

I know what you mean about this type of configuration. I have a 94 Schwinn Crosscut outfitted similarly with 35mm Kendas, and it's my current favorite bike. Comfortable, nimble and bombproof. But I don't give Riv/VO the credit though. ;)

Seriously nice score for 80 bucks. Nashbar (part of Performance) right now is even selling some of their new bikes without any decals on them. Definitely a nice set-up to do some serious riding on. :thumb: Again, what a nice score on such a great bike!

Agreed, very nice build. I would have left the seat tube and head tube teal and kept the stem, but that's just my love of loud bikes showing.
