Classic & Vintage - Campagnolo 9 speed and 8 speed DILEMMA

Ok so i have a dilemma. I have two wheelsets, both campy. The first pair has an 8 speed campy hub, the other pair has a 9 speed c record hub. I have intentions of building up a frame, originally i wanted an 8 speed early 90's campy chorus setup on this frame. But I recently got ahold of a really nice 9 speed wheelset that's campy and i would definitely rather use this wheelset.

The dilemma is that i wanted to run the chorus group or c-record 8 speed group with brifters mainly because i like how they look with just the campy logos and caligraphy on the derailleur and so on.

I have both campy brifters the 8 speed chorus and the 9 speed record titanium

I do not like the look of all the campagnolo record titanium parts, because it says RECORD and TITANIUM across the cranks and on the derailleur and whatnot. BUT the wheelset i want on this frame is the 9speed wheelset. I just think the campy 9 speed group is too modern for an 80's columbus frame. Personally i don't like the look.

Is there any way of fitting the 8 speed cassette onto the 9 speed c-record hub? I heard you can't do it, but i would like to confirm. If not i guess i'm running campy record titanium 9 speed on it :(

I pretty sure 8 and 9 are totally incompatible. I'm in a similar spot, except stuck with all 8-speed stuff and a desire to upgrade to more, but would have to replace everything.

you can use individual cogs from a loose 9spd cassette with "conversion" spacers to run 8spd on a 9/10/11 hub.

i believe there is also a campagnolo produced kit for the same purpose but it may be harder to locate.

anyone here have experience with these spacers?

I've used the 9 to 8 speed conversion kit, but with C-record indexed downtube shifters. It worked fine for me.

You could always upgrade the 8'sp shifter to 9-sp and use the 8-sp group as a 9sp group, use the 9-sp wheels. The insert may be all that's required.

I am running 10s shimano wheels with my 8s Sachs New Success ergo group using the conversion spacers and a 9s Shimano cassette on my IF. Works very well and it handled the D2R2 without missing a shift.

I have the 8s conversion spacers from Campy but I am squirreling them away for a future project. However I think I'm at my max number of road bikes right now so PM if you're interested in them. They were more or less paid forward to me so I would trade but not sell them..

I'm kinda confused, so the spacer kit you guys are talking about will have the 8 speed cassette fit onto the 9 speed hub better? I believe the hub is longer for the cassete on the 9 speed hub?

8s Campagnolo cassette WILL NOT work on your 9s Campagnolo hub, splines are different.

What you need to do in order to run 8s on a 9s hub, is to use a 9s cassette, leaving one cog off and use 8s spacers between the remaining cogs.
