Mountain Biking - Manitou HT = Yummy

To follow on from the retro thread, here's a piccy of the Manitou HT mountainbike from 1997.

It's currently on sale on Ebay, and I haven't seen one of these for ages in the UK.

Here's the low down...

Manitou HT

17" medium frame in red this is an Answer Products manitou frame - number 266 stamp dated 24-sep-96. This bike is fully loaded to my own personal dream spec as follows: Manitou Mars CL carbon fibre shocks, Chris King threadless headset in grey, Ringle stem, Easton carbon fibre bars, Yeti grips, Shimano LX shifters, Pauls moto-lite levers, Shimano XTR front and rear derailleurs + SRP (red) ti bolts, XTR Ti 9sp cassette, Action Tec Ti bottom bracket, FSA carbon fibre cranks, Time Atac Titan carbon pedals with Ti spindles, USE carbon fibre seatpost, Sella Italia Ti saddle, Ti seat post bolt, Spinergy Spox wheelset, Panaracer Smoke Tyres, Cook Bros quick releases.

Just the way I would have built it! :D

just curious what is the asking (starting bid) on that bike? or better yet, what would you estimate the price for it be? it does look nice though :D

I had a chat to the bloke selling the bike, and he wants £1,600 for it...

I think it'd go for about £1,200 tops though..maybe even £1,100.

They are retro aren't they! We didn't get any Bridgestones over here, but they look pretty smart, can't go wrong with the Ritchey Logic tubing either.

Yeah man. There wa one for 117 or something. I'm starting a job next week so maybe sometime this summer I can get a retro MTB. It would be cool to find a Mud Fox or whatever. I saw some pics of them in a very old MTB book I was reading at the library. I think they were made in England.

hmmm, the LBS here in Tokyo sells a brand called "Muddy Fox." wonder if it's the same people?

Muddy Fox mountain bikes were probably the first popular production mountain bike in the UK. In the late 80's and early 90's, they had a womens european MTB champion called Silvia Furst riding for them..she went on to race for Specialized.

I really wanted the Roadrunner bike, which was just below their Courier bike.

Not too sure what their current range are like, but I think there are better makes out there now.
