Hi, I'm restoring a couple early 70's Schwinns. Have a couple of questions.
In re-spoking the wheel I found they do not follow the pattern of other bikes (like a Raleigh). If I follow the directions Sheldon Brown gives, they don't come out right. Also, in checking the pictures I took before disassembly, I found that although the wheels have 36 spokes and are a three-cross pattern, they are 'all over' as opposed to '2 over and 1 under'.
One of the bikes has a Sturmey Archer 3-speed (rear wheel hub). Does anyone know if the gear shifter control actually comes apart (for cleaning, etc.)? It has three pins in it (besides the large screw that keeps the plastic cover on) but I can't tell if they are meant to be removed.
Finally, is it still possible to find a replacement cable for the SA system?
Thanks.
