I probably should have asked this before I bought a new bike and gear :)

I was wondering if anyone on the forum has experience or thoughts on how safe it is to commute from Kirkland to Redmond? Specifically taking the 68th/ 70th st to 140th. I noticed that there are some suburbs on the south side of 70th that I can ride through, but the bike lanes seem pretty decent.

Oh, and as far as gear, I bought a 2011 Cannondale CAADX and a bunch of stuff that I probably don't need.

Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Should be an easy commute. If you are going to ride all winter, you also need good rain gear, good front and back lights and fenders. Head over to the commuter forum and you will get more advice than you want...

Check out Cascade forums for help on this. I've seen many threads with similar routes and questions. And seek out Claire on the commute section since she's a very reliable source.

It's an OK route. A little hilly around i-405, though.
