The Bay Area's Low Key Hill Climb (http://lowkey.djconnel.com/2011/) series for 2011 starts this Saturday at 10 AM on the traditional start of Montebello (http://lowkey.djconnel.com/2011/week1/).

We've signed up (http://lowkey.djconnel.com/2011/RSVP.html). Last year (http://lowkey.djconnel.com/2010/week1/results.html), Montebello had 3 tandems, including Russell and Beth (ne Heiden (http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1980-Time-Magazine-Eric-Beth-Heiden-U-S-Speedskate-/07/!B8so(IQEGk~$(KGrHqR,!hwEzLZ7Wwm(BM3yFMhojg~~0_35.JPG)) Reid. Having a former road cycling World Champion (http://www.procyclingwomen.com/Beth-Heiden.html) and winner of the Mt. Washington Hill Climb (http://www.procyclingwomen.com/Races/Washington.html) as stoker helps the times, they had a time of 31:54, well below the men's median of 35:50.

The LKHC is a lot of fun, and a way for tandems to compete against each other, and half-bikes. Some of the climbs this year are a tad steep for tandems, but five of the nine-- Montebello, Palomares, Highway 9, Kings Mountain and Mount Hamilton, -- have average grade of less than 7%.

Anyone else going to be at LKHC's?

We are most likely in for Mix Canyon.

Seems like a good setting to give it a first crack!

Ruthie is working on Thanksgiving, so I might be doing Hamilton on the half-bike. Not sure about the others.
