Yes, I know, I should just replace the plastic simplex with a better derailleur.
But since I'd like to keep it, here's my problem and I am hoping someone can shed some light.

Here's an upside-down pic. The circled pin should be applying force down and instead, as soon as I let go of the jockey cage, it flips back.

You have got your chain threaded wrong. Should look like this220478

That's what I thought and I tried routing it different ways and it still is not right.
