My front shifter started acting up the other day. It seems like the hood is somehow interfering with the downshift button going "home" so you can up shift. I've made sure the little nub is seated underneath, but it still seems to be binding. Any ideas how to solve this? I oiled everything as well just to be sure.
When I remove the hood it works fine.
I've seen this every once in a while. Try to rotate the hood and get all the tabs properly engaged. If that isn't enough, a bit of trim with an exacto knife works. The problem with the knife trim is that sometimes this becomes the starting point of a tear, so melting the hood back with a heated tool may be better.
Since any trimming may lead to tearing later on, save this for the last resort, and do everything you can with repositioning first.
If trimming the hood doesn't work, try squirting some good lube (whatever that is) on the button swivel. These get a little rusty and stiff sometimes. If neither of those work, it may be time for a shifter rebuild.

Besides the bottom "tab" are there any others that the hood should fit into ?
