I got bored in my day off and figured I'd make my own helmet mount. I have always wanted a GoPro, but never saw getting one when I own a 1080 60FPS camera. but my camera didnt have a mount.

So A little creativity and a trip to Lowes and wala!!!

I took a small video in my street and it works great... doesnt move at all.. But it is adjustable with the wingnut. All I had to do to mount it was drill 2 small holes in my helmet. the bolts are carraige so the underside is a rounded phillips head.. with the padding, you cant even tell they are there..
Excuse my welding... It is ugly because I wasnt sure if the welder would just burn through so I did small welds..

It's probably a bad idea to affix rigid metal parts to a bike helmet.

It seems to me some collisions could cause the metal in the picture to be driven into your skull - especially those bolts.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice!!! I guess I should remove all the rocks and trees from the trails also..

Those bolts are no longer than 1/2 inch.. and if something is hitting my head that hard.. I would have bigger problems.. Like a compressed spine.. and probably death..

Be sure to get a copy of the x-rays for your "after" post.

yeah, it's generally considered a good idea (best practice?) that anything mounted on a helmet should "break away" in a crash. it's also generally accepted that it's a bad idea to drill holes through a helmet and a worse idea to have bolts on the inside. if the helmet absorbs energy in a crash the foam inside the helmet will compress... the bolt's won't.

seriously, there are things that can be put together that are not only safer, but also a lot lighter.

this is designed to break away.. the holes in the helmet are barely smaller than the head of the bolt.. which is a rounded carriage head. so If i push on the camera hard enough it will just snap off...

220900this is the bolt... only the flat head is inside the helmet...

Looks safe enough to me. Nice mount.

Don't know how much it'd help but some good hardware stores carry nylon nut's/bolts. I think they'd be strong enough to hold a camera, slightly lighter and probably more likely to break away rather than get pushed through into your head.
