Classic & Vintage - 1960s Torpado: Help With Model and Serial Number

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This bike is equipped with:

Stronglight 49D
Campagnolo Record RD
Campagnolo Record FD
Campagnolo hubs
Stronglight (?) headset
Campagnolo dropouts
Weinmann brakes (definitely older than Weinmanns I've seen)
Weinmann levers
Unoriginal MAVIC clinchers

Anyone have any idea of the year or model? I know very little of old Italian bikes.

And a head tube size that suggests that it might just be big enough for you, Justin ;). Looks to be about a 61?

Wouldn't that be cool?

Nah, it's a 58-59 ("58" is stamped on the BB shell). I just love it and wanted to know more about it. It's at my LBS.

I will fight you, man!

Unless I'm in your will as the beneficiary of the Frejus. In that case, you're right, this bike is a turd.

Very, very similar.

The Frejus' paint is in better shape. I think the Torpado is fully chromed.

What is the date on the bike license? I think the braze-on cable guides at the BB would put it in the early 70's, not 60's.

I don't recall the date on the bike license. I'll ask tomorrow.

I thought that was a later feature as well. But with the Record derailleurs and 49d crank I thought it may have been older. Thanks.

The steel Record rear ders with plastic jockey wheels were used on mid and low lower level bikes into the early 70's. Could be late 60's though.
