Hi, I'm new here! I have a Nomade II that I bought at a yard sale about 15 years ago. From reading I know it's a low end bike, but I love it. I rode it through my pregnancy and now spend a lot of time pulling a burley trailer with it. My tires are all dry rotted and I need to get new ones for it. We can't read the side of the tires very well since they are so cracked. It looks like they say 27" x 1 1/2. I can't find any tires that meet that description (I can find 27" X 1 1/4 or 1 3/8- but we might be reading it wrong as they are really dry rotted.) I would love some recommendations on tires for my bike. I ride it on streets, paved paths and gravel paths usually with a double burley attached. Is there anything else I should be worried about with this bike? It rides great and has had very little maintenance (chain oiled only) in the years I've owned it.

I would also love tire suggestions for the Burley trailer- it's an older two kid Burley. The tires say 20 X 1.5 on them. It was also from a yard sale and I can now see cloth coming through the rubber the tires are so worn.

Anything 27" should fit. You have three major choices in this size:

Panaracer Paselas, which ride nice and are light, but have fragile sidewalls

Cheng Shin high center tires, which are cheap, heavy, and durable

Fortes, which are new so no one is sure about them yet (AFAIK. Chime in if you do,) but they can sometimes be had for less than Cheng Shins

You should be able to get these in 27 1 1/4. If you need tubes, you can use 700c size: Most will say 27" somewhere on the box in fine print.

As for the trailer, any 20" decimal tire (i.e. not 20 x 1 3/4) should fit. This is the standard size for BMX, so you have a wide range of choices.

Thank you for your help! I really love riding around on this bike. It's time to show it a little love. We did replace the tubes at one point, but the tires are just done. The burley is ready for new ones too. I guess new tires after pulling kids for three different families for the burley and and probably 30+ years of use for the bike is more than reasonable :)

Bontrager also makes some 27" tires (I've bought them at my LBS for around $18-$20 each). They've held up well to gravel and roll nicely.
