Introductions - Help. I sold my car....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been commuting to work on and off for a few years, but mostly off. Now, I've sold my car (my wife still has hers, in case of emergency need to sleep in) but, I'm commuting full time now. It's a short 3 mile commute, and I'm really enjoying riding everyday. I'm trying to gear up in mind and gear to ride in the rain. I live in SoCal, so that won't happen very often, but when it does rain, it tends to poor down buckets. I'm looking forward to learning from the experienced crowd here on the forums.

Congratulations and welcome.
The Commuting and Car Free forums will be your friends and do stop by the Utility Cycling forum as you will not believe how much you can do without a car.

You may have to experiment a bit on your own regardless of
the number of recommendations you get here. Me for example
I wear the same thing between 100F-60F(rain or shine), a
hi-viz shirt and baggy/mountainbike shorts. But I see some
riders already with a jacket at 75F with rain. In heavy rain
the water will bother your eyes, better have a visor on your
helmet. If you don't wear a helmet, wear a baseball cap.

I built this trailer this summer. This was my first load....60lbs of lumber. Pulling the trailer was fine. Sharing the road with semi trucks was not so good.

Maybe you're already doing this, some folks run powerful
taillights even in the daytime. You may also want to
attach a bright colored flag on you trailer.
