Those are just about the ugliest shoes I've ever seen.

Maybe Grant Petersen should offer them on his web page.

Epic. Nice that he went ahead and gave them to her after the breakup. The high road, for sure. Of course he already had that 'Z' on there, and where was he going to find a size 6 Zelda?

I'm pretty sure there are better choices than Zebrawood, for one thing it's exotic. And heavy. And all the other problems he already listed.

I've always thought that a pr. of leather soled dress shoes could be adapted for spd commuters. Never bothered to do it though.

What the needed to use was a nice pair of stiletto pumps with a platform base. That way he could have recessed the spd cleat so his GF could ride to work on her bike still be ready and able able to work the stage..... so to speak. :)

Those Ukrainian farmer clogs he picked up at the thrift store just weren't the best choice. (yeah, yeah... I know he actually made them - but still....)

Point is he modeled and crafted them from the ground up. They're not my cup of tea either but they look a lot more like shoes than the likely result if I had tried the same thing.

I believe the cleats are in fact recessed.

Can't.... no die grinder. And besides...... if I gave those to my wife she'd kill me in my sleep. And the daughter would probably help her.

I hear you. One of my favorites. I found a near mint copy for $12 recently at my favorite thrift store. I didn't have the cash with me at the time, so I will have to go back another time to get that and a Bowie album they had next time I'm in that town. Luckily, that store is in a remote location that doesn't get much traffic, so there is a strong possibility it will be there next time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udyNr0pY6akThat's exactly where my mind went when I read this. Added to my list of CDs I need to find to replace the vinyl of my youth...

I think this is absolutely great! Certainly not from a practical, bicycle use point of view, but from the bicycle rider's point of view.

Don't force the user to fit into what the used wants. Force the used to meet the user's needs. If it weren't for that, the recessed bicycle shoe might never have come into being. I wear my bike shoes a lot simply because I can un-clip, get off of the bike and walk in them. If those cleats were not recessed, I would never have considered bike shoes in the first place.

Bravo shoe guy!

Maybe a new series of threads? "CV bikes and heals" and for the ladies, "guys in sneakers"

Guys in sneakers? Come on, that is not the equivalent!

The clipless wooden shoe story is heartwrenching. Though I can't help wondering whether she left him because he spent too much time on stuff like that...

I'm pretty sure she did. Imagine the look on both faces when he shows up after 18 months with these, and she realizes ...
Oscar winning material if you ask me.

Interesting to see that over there the discussion is mainly about the practical aspects, whereas here at C&V we look at the romantic side. That's why I live here.
