Nice lookin' tires . I had hoped they were more puncture resistant than my basic Kendas, but after just 7 miles , a flat, (from a thorn )

Do 26x 1-3/8 tires just attract thorns or what ?! Ive ridden many miles on my Moto with 27" tires, no flats, same routt. just bad luck ? Maybe Northern Colorado is the thorn capital ?

I'll prob have to install thoese tuffy tire liners ? Sorry, just had to vent. Ive gottin more flats on my Raleigh in the year and a half that I owned it than as the last 10 years of my other bikes...:(

Very nice bike! (beautiful radio too).
I live in "Goat-head" hell...and run tuffy liners or belted tires.

Good luck,
Chris

No, the thorn capital has got to be SW Texas! My first Texas ride landed me with a flat on my tandem. <sigh>

As far as the 26x1-3/8 getting you more flats, it's probably just that you enjoy the bike so much that you ride it more than the previous bike. Dunno.

I have the Delta Cruisers in whitewalls. They're black on the treads. If I remember correctly, I haven't had any punctures on them (or through them). I think you just got unlucky.

Unfortunately, the ride is terribly harsh for me. It may not be the tires. I'm not sure what it is. This is on my Rudge 3-speed, which is really a Raleigh Sports with Rudge decals and a Rudge fork, so the bike ought to ride identically to yours. I inflate them to 50 or 60 psi, and going over bumps is pretty unpleasant.

I put a set of Delta's on my Goddaughters "college-ride" 2 years & no flats. Maybe not a good statistic because the bike only goes a few blocks, in nice weather, when the mood strikes her.

What kinda of saddle is on your bike ? I have ( i think ) is the orig matress saddle , it soaks up the bumps pretty well.

Who made thoese matress saddles on early 70's Raleighs ? Only downside is that its vinle , the butt gets a LiL' sticky on longer rides.

I dont think these tires ride much diff than the Kendas I had on the bike, but I like that they can take another 10 lbs of pressure as compaired to the Kenda, and it seemed they 'centered' themselves on the rims better than the Kenda when inflating......

The saddle is a B-72. And to be honest, I don't love it.

I don't normally rely on a saddle to provide shock absorption. I don't put much weight on my saddle when I ride. I put my weight on the pedals and use my knees as a spring.
