Classic & Vintage - Terry Symmetry Wheel HELP!

Greeting all,

I pickup a nice Terry Symmetry frame complete with components... just needs wheels, tires, tubes, and freewheel/ cassette.

After doing some research I found the Terry used all kinds of combinations of wheel sizes on their frames.

I think what I have is a 1994 terry symmetry with Tange #1 tubing that takes a 650c in the front and a 700c in the rear. frame is 19" or 48cm. Can anyone confirm my thought on the wheels?

Also I need some suggestions on what wheels to buy / use for this bike... I have a few 700c wheels that might work but I'm slightly clueless about what front wheel to get. Would prefer used and cheaper. Anyone have a 650c front wheel they want to sell?

Given the length of that headtube, I would really guess it had a 24 inch front wheel, 700c rear. Terry's were noted for that combo.

I'm about 90% sure it takes a 24. Now you just have to figure out if it's 520 or 540erd. I strongly suspect that it takes the 520 size as the frameset looks the same as my wifes'. Different color, but same lugs, dropouts, fork crown. Tires are available at Terry's webpage, not bad prices really.

I have seen a similar model with 24 in front... what confused me was bikepedia... I couldn't quite match up the model / year of this frame and for the closest ones on bikepedia didn't specify the wheels or specified 650s.

Dylansbob... excuse my ignorance... what are you refering to when you say figure out if its 520 or 540erd?

Any idea on value once I figure out the wheel situation? or should I just part it out and move on? It seem like a nice frame.

I found this front wheel new... through my bike parts distributor... do you think it will work for the terry? Torker® Tri Star Front Road, Rim: , 24 x 1.75", Clincher, 36h, SV hole, Silver. Hub: , 3/8" Nutted Axle. Wheel Build: 14g UCP spokes. Any other 24" front wheels I should consider?

Like many wheel sizes, there is not just one 24 inch wheel out there. Its muddled up pretty good. +1 the Terry used the ISO 520 size.

Personally, I would not buy a nutted axle wheel, nor one with UCP spokes. Too low end. The one above is the wrong size anyway.

Fully cleaned up and ready to ride, a nice Terry should bring $350 +/-.

The 24x 1.75 sounds like a poor choice for that bike- it sounds like an MTB or BMX wheel. Nutted instead of quick release is also a negative. Keep looking until you find a narrower profile road wheel with a QR and presta valve. Terrys are good quality bikes. The wheels should be too.

I'm hoping to find a cheaper replacement wheel... I only spent $60 on the frame... thanks for the link... I'm going to see if my LBS can order the same wheel for a bit cheaper. My wholesale accounts don't have anything that will work in 24" 520mm.

Since you are only $60 into the bike right now, you might want to just sell the frameset via ebay or whatever.

If you put that wheel on, the bike will look like and be worth about $10. If you put a correct wheel on, you will have a bike that looks like and is worth $350.

Found a 24" roab bike wheel for my terry... got it for $20 so this build should come together nicely. I think its a mavic rim with a 105 hub. Also came with good rubber... but I already bought a new 24 tire.
