So, I bought a new fork about 3 weeks ago for this (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/769878-The-End-of-My-MTB-Season!) bike and seeing as my mongoose only needed about a 7.25" steer tube, I bought a fork with a steer tube of 7.75". I bought a brand new Rockshox Dart 3 off ebay for $100. Today I got my new 2009 Giant Rincon frame in and it turns out that it needs a fork with a steer tube closer to 8.5". So I now need to find a $100 fork with a longer steer tube and I need to get rid of my current fork. I have already searched ebay a little for $100ish forks and couldn't find anything close to the quality of my Dart 3. My Dart 3 had Lockout, adjustable dampening, and adjustable rebound. Any tips for a fork with similar specs for $100 would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone is interested in buying my current fork, PM me. I'm planning on putting it up on eBay tonight so PM me early if you are interested.

EDIT: It is a 1 1/8" dia steer tube, and if I could just replace the steer tube that would work for me too if that is possible.

EDIT 2: I found this steer tube (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/FK409Z20-Rst+Steerer+Tubes.aspx) on jensons site and wonder if any of you have ever replaced one?

A little heavy on the 'ish part, but a Tora is 10 times the fork that the RS Dart or similar forks in that price point could ever hope to be.

First off, I thought the Tora what what Sram replaced the Dart 3 with? The dart 3 was the highest end of all the RS Darts, and was equipped with damping, pre-load, rebound adjustment, and turn-key lockout.

Second, I would love to have a Tora, that was what I was originally looking at before I bought my Dart 3, except they are not $100. I literally only have $100, I might be able to push $120, but all the ones you listed are $150ish after shipping. I've sadly been considering a Suntour XCR.

Here are the 3 I've been considering.
Suntour XCR RL (http://www.amazon.com/SR-SUNTOUR-Forks-Remote-Lockout/dp/B005OUS1MU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2SPS40XSFYDJ7&colid=80SLV8WV4W1L)
Suntour XCR (http://www.amazon.com/SR-Suntour-100mm-Black-Threadless/dp/B004XIRTI6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2XAHJWIBJ1EZ8&colid=80SLV8WV4W1L)
RS XC28 (http://www.amazon.com/RockShox-XC28-100mm-26-Inch-Black/dp/B005543OTU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1ONFKVG5YPS94&colid=80SLV8WV4W1L)

The features on the XCR RL are the best, I'm just not sure about Suntour Forks.

If you're going to get a Suntour...just spend $50 on a rigid steel fork and be done with it. (my opinion) What ever 40mm of travel you lose, you'll also lose 2-3lbs. Steel is flexible enough to take the edge off, but still pretty light weight. I only paid like 30-35 bucks for my current Kona P2.

So you would recommend the RS xc28 over any of the suntours even though it has no adjustability? I'm starting to ride much more technical xc trails and have never experimented with different fork adjustability and that is why I really want a suspension fork and would like all the adjustability. I just can't afford a Tora right now (I just bought a new frame and complete disc brake set).

IMO the XCR is no lower on the totem pole than the Dart, and (deja vu? think I already said this in another thread) I would actually prefer the XCR for its fatter stanchions.

I think I'm just gonna keep an eye out on ebay while waiting for my current fork to sell and see what I can find. If I find a great deal on a Suntour I'll get it, and if I find a good deal on a RS I'll just get it instead. Either one should be better that the old cheap MOZO that was on my old walmart bike.
