Classic & Vintage - Next project: 70-ish Pug PX-10

I got my px-10 back from Bilenky today so I think it's time to start a thread on it. I picked up the frame a few years ago off of CL. it was cheap and it looked like this:

it was spray bombed. I stripped it and the chrome underneath was shot.

and today I picked it up

So along with the frame I also dropped off a broken front TA front rack meant for Mafac racers.It had a broken spot weld, so I had Steven strip all the chrome off, fix the spot weld, braze on a light mount, and re-chrome it. I'm not positive the mount is the most graceful thing I've ever seen, but the price was right and it's sturdy. This bike will be built french, but it will also be a work horse.

As for the frame, he brazed on a pump mount specifically for a pump I have.

he also added a mount for a rear light behind the seat tube, which will have a home made led with internal wiring added to it, if I'm lucky.

he also added to pairs of water bottle mounts.

gold silca pump
gold mafac levers,
gold mafac calipers
simplex criterium medium cage rear mech
simplex front mech when i find one.
ta compact double. I have one but I stole it for another project so I need to find another. In the pic are Sugino px arms.
Simplex post yet to be found.
Ideal saddle that I forgot to put in the pic.
Simplex bar end shifters with the demutiplicator jobby.
it will run 700c wheels with 28-32mm tires.

Next I believe the plan is that it's going to Robe30 for a paint job. Hopefully by the time it's ready I'll be ready to build it.

btw, it's got a french sugino headset, french threaded sugino bb. I might try one of the new Berthoud saddles on it....though I've heard they might be crap.

Yep, very cool. Good ideas there on the added brazed on stuff. What's your choice for color?

I have a set of wheels off of an early 70s PX10, I'm still looking for the frame to put them on.

No sir. That will be a winter project not doubt.

Is the slope-shouldered fork original? If so, makes it fairly late, no? Esp. with Nervex lugs.

Sweet!!! Man, you have a lot of interesting bikes/bike projects going on! I have a very similar PX10 frameset (same size, at least). Mine has the simpler Nervex 'Bubois' lugs and original fork with uber-raked tips for low trail. I'm having a local framebuilder add canti studs and new bridges for 650B conversion, and the current plan is to repaint it after the mods and build it up as a 650B city bike with postino or porteur bars.

Only the simpler paint jobs are done in-house. He sends the bigger jobs out.

There's certainly something freeing about having an old frame that's been around the block, and isn't restoration material. I have a frame + fork that's probably a Raleigh Intl (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/584856-More-fun-frame-id-Raleigh), but has been rattlecanned, had TT cable guides, DT shifter bosses and top-of-BB cable guides brazed on. I'm considering having bosses for Mafac centerpulls brazed onto the fork blades and seat stays, at an elevation for 650B rims -- but first I want to build it up into a SS and ride it awhile, before sinking any money into it.

this looks pretty awesome. And here I was just getting excited about the 1975 UO8 that my friend found and passed on to me. I was just going to put the components on -- i can't really justify doing any rebuilding work on a lower-level frame like that. but then again, it was free, so no complaints!
