Mountain Biking - Hmmm

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Wow. A very cool look. It's about time we started seeing Steam Punk in bike form, though I'm gonna guess that this isn't the first shot at it.

I dig the paint scheme. The bike not so much.
Looks like a custom job and not from the factory.
Cannondale did a similar riveted airplane panel theme on one of their bikes.

So did Specialized (http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2009/bikes/8192-19_d.jpg), though theirs wasn't nearly as nice looking as this one.
Really cool color scheme. But Ed, what are you going to do with a bike like that? Other than break it on the first ride? ;)

Love the paint job, just wish it was on a deserving bike.

Only if they're real bullet holes. (http://mountainbikemilitia.com/stuff/headshok.html)

Sorry, sorry, you're right, it's not my place to decide what bike deserves a paint job like that. Especially considering it looks to be a higher-end bike than mine, sans the drivetrain. So let me rephrase that:
Love the paint job, but it seems like it belongs on a bike valued at more than the cost of the paint job.
And just to make sure I have my facts straight, that is a Dakar XC frame, correct?
False, wanker. Stop blaspheming the XLT. ;)

Looks like a Japanese carrier bomber. The canopy would make it a Aichi D3A or something similar, except the wheels aren't right.

Looks like a Brewster to me, but I don't know a whole lot about airplanes. Or maybe a Grumman?

Brewster is a single seat fighter. Grumman made a lot of planes - which one?

Whoops, shows my true knowledge of aircraft :o
I believe it's the Avenger? I realize that knowledgeable people have chimed in & figured it out already, but that's the one I was referring to.

This (http://militarytimes.com/citations-medals-awards/recipient.php?recipientid=21087) is the only military 'fame' I'm aware of in my family. Not the only page I could find about him, but definitely the most accurate.
And I don't think it's too far off topic...we started with discussing the bike in the picture, now we're discussing the plane:D

Yeah, Cannondale started that look, back in 2005. The F600 Furio hardtail sported WWII era bomber stripes and simulated rivets. That was one great riding HT:
