Does this front hub require 7/32" bearing balls?

And how do you service the rear hub?

RATS! if I was home I could post an exploded view. I believe if you remove the locknut and cone on the nondrive side and slide the axle off the freehub sort of slides off too I think! there is something odd about these hubs and I have a funny tool to help hold the pawls down while reassembling it. it has just bee so long since I did one, I don't remmeber.

IIRC when you pull the axle the freehub body comes right off. Kind'a wish it didn't do that. A special tool to hold the pawls in place would'a been nice to have. I think I used either floss or fishing line.

That front hub sure looks a lot like a C-Record. What's (if any) the difference?

I think the front hubs were the same. if thereis a difference it is a very minor reshpae of the flange and the recess driling for the spoke heads.


the tool was a very simple wire thing that looked sort of lolipop shaped and had a closeur on the 'stick' portion something like a safety pin. it worked something like a piston ring compressor.

I asked if it required 7/32" bearings, because with 3/16" the cones were drawn in to the hubshell just enough that I could not keep a cone wrench on them and properly adjust the tension. So, I'm still not clear if the front hub I have takes 7/32" or 3/16" bearing balls.

Thanks. This good news for me! I just built up one of those rear hubs and was wondering what would match in the front. Guess I just go by the date on the lock nuts...

Record and Croce hub bodies look almost identical. Record hubs take 7/32 while Croce take 3/16. the easiest way to differentiate them is by looking at the dust caps. Croce hubs have flat caps that allow a cone wrench to fit onto the cone while Record hubs have a conical cap that needs to be removed to access the cone.
