'80 Sekai 2000 Super SX

Serial Number - Y0F5767

62cm seat-tube cc

Tange frame, Tange Hi Ten fork, Tange headset, Sugino SuperMaxy cranks, SunTour 7 derailleurs/shifters, SunTour Perfect 6-speed freewheel, Dia-Compe center-pull brakes, 27 x 1 ¼” Araya alloy rims, Suzue hubs w/Sekai decals, Alps stem and Bars.

Purchased at Valley Cyclery in Auburn, WA

This bike was picked up by a friend and given to me in filthy condition. But, it cleaned up pretty nice. I've put on new tires/tubes and tape. (Might redo this with blue cloth, as I did a pretty poor job. I'm used to using nicer cork tape). I rebuilt the bottom-bracket and tuned the drive-train. Rides nice but its a bit big for me and won't be ridden in favor of my other bikes. I'd like to sell it to someone that could put it to better use.

I bought a very similar Sekai for $50 on craigslist. I planned to give it to a friend but he backed out, so I ended up converting it to fixed gear and selling it for about $160.

Anyway, that's a decent middle-of-the-road bike for it's time given the frame materials and components. I'd say it's worth $150 in that condition, maybe $200 if you're really lucky. I wouldn't be disappointed to get as little as $125 for it.

Just for kicks:

Thanks, FastJake. This about right in line with my thoughts. I just didn't want to 'give' it away or feel like I'm ripping someone off. I responded to a CL "WTB" ad an the response said he thought I should get more than he wanted to spend. Kinda surprised me at first, but your responce and compairing other sales confirms this. Figure I'll put in CL and if I don't get any bites I'll let him low ball me.

Side note: This bike spent a moment as a fixed gear during the rebuild. More of a chance to try re-dishing a wheel then anything else. Rode it around a little like that. The 52t ring being integral with the crank and me only having a 16t cog, made for a pretty tall gear. And not surprisingly, the frame was just big as a FG as it was geared!
