Ok just to let everyone know, we had an absolute blast (despite the accident) and she is already trying to figure out how she's gonna ride in the halloween CM.

Just to give you a run down of what happened... We arrived from Beaumont about 15 min before the ride started. Once we got there and saw the crowd we were instantly pumped! Apparently it was one of the largest yet, estimated 800-1000 ppl!!! The ride was awesome, we rode all through downtown, the city seemed like it was ours. One it was over we followed a group of friends to a lil bar/diner called the moontower. Afterwards we started heading back to the starting point of the ride, and thats when it all were wrong...

this is the seam in the street where her front wheel hit, and as you can see, we are all huddled where she landed!!! it's a good 20-25 feet from the initial impact. FYI I know you can't tell from the pic, but the height difference between the two pieces of concrete is about 4"!!

Once her front wheel hit that uneven patch in the rode, she was trying to keep herself from faceplanting on the ground and ended up riding a front wheel wheelie to the "No Parking" pole where she finally fell off slamming arm first into the pole itself.

We dont know if she bent the pole or if it was already that way, but we like to think that she did the damage to it ;) Here's her bike.

So she has a SPIRAL FRACTURE on her left radius, contusions all over her left rib area with internal swelling, also a large contusion with hematoma on right side of head.

She is really down... not because of her injuries, but that she cant ride next month. We have decided that we are gonna go to as many group rides as possible once she's healed.

All I can say is, What a trooper!!!!!!!!

Ow!!

Hematoma with a helmet?! She must have been moving.

Switch to Downtubes and she can shift with one hand. The plus is that she can beat pedestrians and cars that get in her way. :)

I had a spiral fracture in my leg before. Not a fun recovery at all...surgery and about six months of downtime for me. Hope your girl gets better faster than I did!

Tell her to stay off the bike till she's off the pain meds too :) Halloween may be a little ambitious to be riding again, she's going to be stiff and sore when the cast comes off, even if she doesn't have to have surgery.

yea I told her the only way she's getting to ride in halloween is if I pull her in a trailer. Been looking for a good deal on one on Craigslist. We figure she was going somewhere between 20-25 at impact, because we were traveling close to 30mph right before the accident. Yep she's a keeper, she even plays call of duty with me!!!!

That's a damn tough young lady! I wish her a full and speedy recovery.
I broke my left radius last year. My crash was caused by bad/uneven pavement, on a street I was not familiar.

may she heal quickly. lived in beaumont many years ago. wasn't much room for riding except
on college/u.s.90 headed west. i did have a bike then- a sears free spirit 10 speed. railroad avenue
at that time was pretty rough and wild.

Marry her.

she have a positive-spirited sister?

Yep she's a keeper, she even plays call of duty with me!!!!

Does she have sister in the 16-17 year old range? If yes, put her in a box and ship her over to me. Thanks

Anyway... Wow that's a lot of people riding on the road! And those seams are just bad.

Here in Thousand Oaks we have pine cones, they take tons of people down each year, And then of course we have goat heads which are horrible.

I broke my elbow this summer. The arm is too weak at those speeds and she can fall all over again. I'm going to start with another physical therapist again and yes there is still pain! My arm and hand is still weak but getting stronger. I can't stress how important it is to stay off the bike until the break heals in 2 months. Best of luck.
