Southeast - Are there good places to ride near Knoxville?

I'm thinking about applying to an internship at Oak Ridge National Labs this summer, mainly because I think their research looks exciting and I've found that people in East Tennessee are some of the nicest in the country ;)
But I don't know anything about cycling around there. Is it a bike-friendly area? I know Knoxville is really outdoorsy, so I'd assume so. If anyone on here lives there, let me know!
Thanks!

Oh, man! There is an abundance of great riding in the area.
Most of the riding I did in that area was south of there but I'll bet you can find plenty of nice rides to the north also.
I liked to stay down around Maryville and Townsend and ride around there. One of my all time favorite rides is from Townsend up to Cades Cove and do a loop or two before coming back. The auto traffic around the Cove can be heavy in spots (really slow though) but I had good luck by getting up there early.
Member VeloVol posted a ride I really want to do. The Cherohala Skyway. Here's a link:http://www.cherohala.com/
