I was able to take this bike out for a spin this weekend and boy did I love it! This bike was so responsive - the second I mashed down on the pedal it felt like the front was getting lighter. I am still in the process of shopping for a bike so this is definitely a candidate for purchase. I have been away from cycling for a while so brands such as Cannondale and Trek are my remembered brands, and front runners, currently. Does anyone have any reason why NOT, or why over other brands, to get a Scott bike?

That does look like a very nice bike. Nothing wrong with Scott bikes as far as I know. I like the 9 speed in combination with the 48/36/26 triple. And you're going to love those disc brakes.

i have a 2011 Scott SUB 10. it's their disc brake/IGH hybrid model. i've got one complaint and one caution.
complaint: the rigid aluminum disc fork rides a bit harsh (but i think that might be true of all aluminum rigid forks). a hybrid at the $1,150 price point should come with a carbon fork, IMO.
caution: i think Scott bikes might run a tad large. their sizing chart and the guy at the bike shop said that a medium would best fit me (i'm 5'-9"), but in test rides, i found the small to be more my style, so that's what i went with. i slapped a longer seat-post and longer stem on it and i've got it very well dialed in now.
otherwise, the bike has been great as my back-up/foul weather commuter. we'll see how it handles its first upcoming chicago winter. Ergon grips have helped eliminate a good deal of the discomfort i was initially experiencing from the road buzz of the harsh fork. also, the bike is just downright beautiful with a very sexy paint job. Scott seems to have the aesthetics thing nailed down if you're into flashy, graphics-intensive paint jobs. here's my Scott:

Nice-looking bike!
Never heard anything really negative about Scott!
...And they've been around for awhile too...

Nice bike, Steely! I am 5' 10" and test rode the medium. The M felt pretty good to me... I should look @ the Geo of the Metrix and the Sub 10 to see what the distance from seat to handle bars are.

that's cool, you should absolutely go for what feels right to you. it's also possible that i just like the feel of slightly undersized bikes.

the saddle to bar reach was too short for me on the small size, but that was easily corrected by swapping out the stock stem with a 120mm one.
I bought a Sportster 20 a while ago and its awesome...has front suspension so I can't comment on the harsh ride post. But I've zero dramas with it...and its starting to cop a little bit of abuse on MTB trails.
As far as Scotts being bigger than others...I dunno about that. They provide geometry guides just like everyone else. I got a XXL...but I based the purchase mostly on the BB to top tube measurement. It didn't feel any different to the same size cannondales and specs I tried.
My choice ended up coming down to (i) V-brakes vs discs (I wanted to save a little weight) (ii) the specs on the rear d and cranks were better on the Scott and (iii) I just thought the Scott looked a whole lot better!
