Actually, that's not as bad as I expected. It's usually pretty terrible here -- and I pay extra for a "faster" connection.

I have service that is slowly closing down(no new customers). I pay 55/mo for 384k d/u,unlimited, but I'm regularly gettin 1.5-2x the speed as other users switch. Slow, I know, but was much more affordable than 150-180/mo I was paying for cable modem when I signed up.

I use my cell phone for internet access. It's never seemed terribly slow to me. Youtube videos usually load more quickly than with my former DSL service.

I'm not even sure what our service is supposed to be, but it works fine for me!

We have cable tv/internet and it varies between about 6M download and 15M download. Plus the service overall sucks. I had a lot of outages and downtime so I started keeping a diary. In a 10 week period our internet failed at least 17 days.

A former co-worker in the Denver area subscribed to Comcast's "Extreme 105" service recently and sent out the results of a speed test that showed ~114Mbps.

huh - I really don't have an issue with my laptop internet (t-mobile - it varies from 3-4G) - and it's freaking way more faster than my work computer.

this seems odd. hmm

I was just about to be done with speed checking. Signal from the pyramid was half way to my location and then it hit me. Thought: "Why the hell do I need to display my internet speed? So I clicked X.

Interesting. Why is the guest network faster than the corporate network?

Interesting. Why is the guest network faster than the corporate network?

That's not uncommon; Often companies will have their corporate net use connections with very high service level agreements ( and lower, but more consistent bandwidth allocations ) , while the companion ( and completely separate ) guest network will be faster but have residential-class connections.

Sort of.

It's a bit more complicated than that. We have a T1 (only 1.5 in each direction) for mission-critical stuff. We have a business class cable connection (20/2) for general web browsing on the corporate network.

I work at a performing arts center, and it's also a huge public building. The guest network was recently upgraded for a large event. The end-goal is to bring in a couple of redundant fiber drops from Metro Ethernet and scale as much bandwidth as we need at any time.... it just takes time and money, and we're all out of money. :)

Once we manage that, the other three circuits could be retired.
