I am looking for a good portable bicycle pump for a Trek 7.3fx. I have read good reviews of the Topeak Mountain Morph pump. Is this pump specifically for a mountain bike or would it work fine on my Bontrager Hard Case 700X32c tires? Thanks.

What's wrong with a Topeak Road Morph? MTB pumps are optimized for higher volumes of air at lower pressures (typically 40-70 psi). Road pumps are optimized for higher pressures at lower volumes (typically 90-130 psi). The Road Morph is an excellent pump for road bike tires.

+1 The difference between the pumps isn't huge but the Road Morph version is a little easier to use on a higher pressure tire.

I bought a Road Morph for my weekend road bike and relegated the Mountain Morph to my former weekend and now everyday road bike. The everyday bike has 700c x 25 tires, and the Mountain Morph seems to work fine getting them up to 110 psi give or take a little.

Either morph will serve you well. I have several pumps in my collection. The morph and it's competitor, the lezyne micro floor drive HP/HPG are among the best I have used....

My only warning about the morph is be careful what frame mount you get. Topeak went through several variations. That two piece version was a piece of junk. But the newer cage mount is really nice. There is also a frame version that uses zip ties, that one works pretty good too.

I searched for "topeak cage mount" and the only thing I found was a way to mount a waterbottle cage on the handlebars.

Did they ever come out with an actual mount to mount the road morph under the water bottle cage? I tried using the zip ties - that didn't work well at all. They didn't have any official "right beside the water bottle" mount. I ordered a mount from them that was supposed to work but that was really for another pump, but it quickly broke. I found a lezyne mount that fit it perfectly but couldn't find a place to order just the mount...

I always thought that was the biggest drawback of the road morph - you had to either lose a water bottle cage, or mount it under the top tube which didn't work well for funny shaped top tubes, or for putting the bike on and off the standard "hold by the frame" style of car bike rack.

Did they finally actually come out with something?

When that PITA two-piece clamp finally broke, I contacted Topeak and they sent me the zip-tie version. I then contacted them asking if a bottle cage version was available and they sent me one of those too. So "yes" there is a bottle cage version available.

Differences: Mtn Morph, lower pressure, higher volume, fatter tube body; Road Morph, higher pressure, lower volume, thinner tube body.

Both will mount in a behind the water bottle mount. The Mtn Morph is fatter and mounts that fit are easier to find. I believe RAVX makes one that will fit the road morph. I have both and use the same brand water bottle mount, I use 2 velcro straps around the seat tube and pump to hold the road morph in place since the road morph has a thinner tube body.
