Introductions - Hi from The Big Bend of Texas

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Building up a road bike (first time I'm trying to do most if not all of the work myself) and would not feel even a little bit comfortable doing it without these forums and all the generous posters, so thanks. And I'll blame y'all if I screw it up.

Welcome to Bike Forums! Hopefully between the road forum and mechanics forum you can get the answers you need. What kind of bike are you building?

I visited my son who lives in Alpine two years ago. Loved your pictures. Especially the Stillwell Ranch and store. I was there about 25 years ago (don't remember the exact year, but it was the year Halley's Comet last visited). I camped there and went down to the Maravillas Canyon. Met Mrs. Stillwell at the store. She was in her late 80's or 90's at the time. A great lady. She told me that she had moved there when she was a young bride of 15 as I remember. I wondered about doing a bike ride in the region, but thought it might not be too safe considering the fast and somewhat reckless ways people drive on those roads. You seem to have done well, though, and I envy you. Feel free to contact me if you like at grandbob.com
