When buying a new MTN Bike, the amount of choice in brands one gets to choose from is quite amazing. I’ve been looking to buy a new MTN Bike and after spending hours of research and time I had finally narrowed my choice down to three bikes, namely the Diamondback Apex, Axis and Fuji’s Outland Comp.

Yesterday, I took my old MTN bike (Trek) in for a general service at the local bike shop and while browsing around I spyed a brand I’ve not heard much about… Merida. The bike in question is the Merida Miami (http://www.merida.com/s0_global/main_control.php?group0=bikes&group1=mtbsport&bikeId=31).

I know nothing about this brand, then bike shop says it’s a good bike, but I prefer to do independent research… which has not come up with much. Does anyone know anything about this bike / branch ... pro's & con's. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Does the name SPECIALIZED mean anything to you?

Merida owns them!

Merida makes their frames.

Nuff said!

Ah, did not know that. Specialized bikes tend to a bit pricey though in comparison, but they are damn good bikes in my opinion. Thanks :D

Merida has been ridden to many UCI world cup victories by none other than Gunn Rita Dahle, Sabine Spitz and Irena Kalentyava.
Gunn Rita also won this years TranAlp ultra marathon on her Merida with Irena in tow.

The Hardtails are really awesome magnesium alloy frames. And super light!!

Yes Merida manufactures Specialized bikes and owns a large share in the company. They also produce many many other brands of which Fuji is one i believe.

In mens XC racing they're used by Jose Hermida and he is no slouch, but is continually upstaged by Julien Absalon.

Great bikes and I'd add them to the top ofmy list.

PS: The Specialized Brain technology is actually a Merida Patent applied to a Specialized Hosrt link 4 bar suspension.
Have a look at their LRS (low ratio system)
