Tour of Beijing is on!

I had a question after the first stage TT... Why weren't they allowed to ride TT bikes? I heard commentators mention they were forbidden but not why.

Also, man that smog is thick...

EDIT:

Velo News is reporting that the teams decided among themselves to leave the TT setups at home due tot he hassle of shipping it all to China.

Flipping through the channels earlier today and saw it on, this was the first time I stumbled upon the ToB. I had no idea that this race even existed, I figured after la Vuelta the pros just waited until next season. Was cool to see this odd first stage.

[edit] Upon further research, found out this is the first time its being held

Odd indeed. I was disappointed in the crowds...or rather, lack thereof.

Apparently, no one in the peloton wants to eat the beef.

All throughout the ToB the roads have looked empty, deserted of spectators. What's the point of having a cycling event in such an oppressive country that fans can't even have viewing access to the riders/race? I remember seeing the same thing during the Olympics.

Cycling News noticed it too. (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/tour-of-beijing-slowly-opens-for-spectators)
