Introductions - Hi! I'm new!!
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm really new to bikes! I was given a road bike (I think. lol) and it's a little tall for me. I can ride it but when I stop it's hard to reach the ground. LOL Probably also because it's a men's bike. lol I like the look of the cruisers and they seem closer to the ground. lol I will tell you how lame I am by saying as I'm looking people are saying things like gears and I have no idea what they are or what their for. lol Can anyone help me?!

Hiya, don't worry; we're here to help:)
After awhile you'll be talking about changing your cassette
and building your own wheel(maybe).

Welcome. This is a great place to find answers to all your questions. Your "Gears" give you a choice of making it easier to push the pedals but go slower/or making it harder to push the pedals but going faster. Or somewhere in between. Your lower or "easier" gears make it easier to climb hills. If you live in a really flat area you may not miss them if you decide to go with a cruiser. If you ride on hills, you might want to keep the road bike a for awhile...
