Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1985 Tommaso questions..

Im thinking of buying a Tommaso road bike tommorow morning but have no idea if i should or not. From what i can find it's a 1985 idk what model but it's red with black stripes around the top tube and the down tube below where the downtube shifters are mounted. Paint looks to be pretty decent, has a ten speed drive imports sticker on the seat tube near the bb. Has a 105 gruppo and mavic rims. 56cm frame and made of some type of columbus tubing not sure which tube set. Anyone know what it is or if it's worth getting?

Id say....aelle tubing 300.00 sl tubing 400.00 looks nice shape. ten speed drive are the guys who painted them. Im not sure who made those...Cioc? Billato? tomasso was just a name not a builder....if im wrong, im sure i will be corrected. 105 back in the 80s wasnt too good

10spd drive imported and painted the frames of lost of makers/brands and I think Tomaso was just a "house brand" against their other names like Guecrotti, Rossin, Battaglin and few others. they came mostly as frames (with a color choice scheme upcharge) and you picked a kit to build it with so while the frame may have a 'model' name there is no ganrauntee you would ever find a bike the same color, tubing type and components.

I had a very nice SL Tommaso for about 8 months, built it up with 2nd gen 105 (1055/56) 8 speed stuff. Rode very nicelyl, just too short/small for me. Sold it to a lady in DC who I understand is quite pleased with it. She paid upwards of $700 as I recall, but that was with NOS drivetrain and new wheels, tires, cables, saddle, bar tape, etc.

Ended up buying it, everything is in great shape except for the columbus sticker the middle of it worn away but not thru to the paint just enough to erase what tube set it is. (looks like from a car rack) So tommorow i pull the fork out to see if its just aelle or if it's got the helical head tube of an SL tubeset. Will post pictures and findings tommorow morning

I don't think you be disappointed either way. try and post a few pics of the tubing sticker anyway perhaps we can puzzle it out, some of these guys are amazing.

you don't need to remove the fork to check for the helicoil reenforcements they are on the inside of the steerer, simply looking through the bottom of the fork with a good flashlight should do the trick. you may need to remove the stem but unless you are planningto overhaul the HS I would not take it apart just to check the frame material.

Specs are i believe the frame/fork to be Columbus Cormor tubing, paint is in very good condition with just a few touched up chips here n there.

105 headset
105 brake levers
105 shift levers
105 brakes
105 F+R der.
8sd shimano cassette (works well with down tube friction shift actually)
Edco hubs, rear hub has threading for a normal cassette lockring like used on todays bikes as well as threading on the end of the outside of the freehub where the last cog is the lockring. (is this normal i've never seen both types of threading on one hub?)
Mavic SUP 700c rims
Unknown seatpost

Once i tuned it up and replaced the cables/pads it rides excellent but it turns out a 56cm is a hair to small for me so it might be getting put up for sale sometime in the future to fund a larger bike but for now i'll deal w it until something better pops up.
