General Cycling Discussion - Dreams

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I find myself dreaming about being on the bike a lot. Sometimes I even dream when I'm on the bike but that's another story. I don't tend to remember my cycling dreams in much detail. I think the most recent was a dream where I was rideing among several other cyclists. All of the other riders were on the same model of bike as my own. It wasn't very interesting but it was cool because I could finally find out what others thought of my ride. I'm sure I've had more interesting cycling dreams than that. One day I'd like to have a dream like the one Chevette had in Virtual Light with that huge front chainring.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has dreams about being on the bike. What do you dream about when you're dreaming about rideing?
Hi Madcat,
My dream was a little sad, as I was leading out the Pro Elite Cross Country Men at the World MTB Championships. I had Thomas Frishneckt on my side, and I blew him away on a sandy climb!! :D
I came across the line with my hands held high, and donned the rainbow jersey..
I woke myself up and had a good look around the bedroom before I realised that it was just a dream...hey ho!
I love dreams like that :D

I don't remember much about my dreams, but
I do distinctly remember gluing on tires.
Strange huh?
Have you ever noticed that after some long
rides it feels like your still on the bike hours
after you've gotten off?

If you want to remember dreams, as soon as you wake us (and wake up abruptly) write them down. Otherwise your brain does not commit them to memory because they are dreams. Writing stuff down makes you tend to remember stuff!

The only dream I remember that was about a bike was one where I was choking on the chain-ring of my fixed gear.
Most of my dreams are more mundane.

OK, I wasn't planning to share this because it's so embarassing, but since the subject has been opened here goes. Last Thursday night I watch cycling on OLN. I think there was Het Volk, Criterium International and something else. Anyway that night I had my FIRST ever cycling dream. The only part I can remember is that approaching the finish of a race I was side by side with, I'm serious, LANCE. We were eyeing each other trying to decide who was going to start the sprint first!
Now I have only been riding a little over a year, do well to go much over 20 mph, and have never raced so you KNOW how unrealistic THIS dream was. Even my wife, who barely knows who Armstrong is, laughed at this one! I feel like a poseur even for having this dream!
OK, stop laughing! I didn't start this thread!
As the winter dragged on, I kept having cycling dreams. Often, they were dreams about being out on my favorite routes. In one dream I was time-trialling up the Chamrousse! A couple of times I had dreams about falling and crashing.
If you want to remember dreams
One time I woke up remembering a really neat dream and I wanted to hold onto that memory. I was enjoying the memory of the dream when right before my minds eye, it slowly but surely dissolved as I was consciously focused on it.
That was a very weird experience - to be thinking about something and have the details of that thought fade away until all that was left was the feeling.
I assume that I started off not fully awake and as my conscious mind came to the forefront, my dream faded.

I revived this thread because I had two dreams in a row about my bike. The first one I don't remember but the one I had last night was a nightmare .
I gained a few lbs since my knee surgery as I loved to eat and had to cut back on the riding. Guess it's bothering me cuz in my dream I got on my bike and the wheels got all bent out of shape. OR maybe it was some kind of an omen because my wheels got a workout today when a long flatbed didn't give an inch or slow down and ran me off the road. Bastard!! Anyway I took a detour onto some loose gravel and uneven bumpy asphalt and then into a grass gulley. But the wheels stood!!

One bizarre dream I had involved my training partner and friend Enrico. To understand the dream, yo have to understand that Enrico is one of the hard men of cycling. He has incredible power and split-second recovery times. He had trackie quads -- one of the guys in my group quipped that he must squat-lift Toyotas for exercise. Enrico challenges me.
I'm in a cyclocross race, but I'm not doing very well. I'm hammering hard to get up to the lead group [led by the local cyclocross champion]. All of a sudden, Enrico, who is not in the race, rides up alongside me on his road bike and yells "come on, Mateo, work, work hard..." I start grinding away, and Enrico sails off up ahead on his road bike. I wake up, feeling that the tide had turned and that I was going to bridge up.

There is a tough technical trail out here called foreplay. Rate dd. I was taken on it my first 2 weeks biking and was smoked. I could barely finish it. I dream of making it up to the top and back down. ahhhh

During a stint of about a week when it rained hard, cold and solid, my riding time was being severely curtailed. One night my SO was awakened by my legs spinning madly, when she asked what in the world I was doing, I replied (without waking or breaking my cadence) "I'm riding my bike"
She just loves to tell this story at get togethers to watch me blush. :o
Sunday night I dreamt I was DHing and saw something green on the course out of the corner of my eye. I stopped and dug $190.00 dollars out of the dirt. When I got to the bottom of the hill there were some unreputable types waiting for me demanding I turn over their money. I told them I only found $40.00 and I was keeping $10.00 of it as a finders fee, so I gave them $30.00 and rode off.
Worst part was that I woke up after that and couldn't get back to sleep worrying about the thugs coming after me.

Eventually, this thread will turn into a general "dream" thread, so I'm not going to wait. :)
I woke up early one morning (for a change,) had coffee, showered and started to put on my pants. Suddenly...
I woke up. Look at the time!

I guess I just have the same boring dream everyone else has...you know, the one where I'm leaning against my bike, dressed in the robe, on top of the pyramid. I look down and see all the midgets throwing gerkins at me. You know, that dream.
