I recently was tested by a visiting Physiologist at my bike shop. I am 61yo, VO2 was 40, LT was 81%, RHR was 44. I was not given what these numbers mean. What do they mean? Are they any good?
They look great to me. A VO2 max of 40ml/kg/min is good for someone of your age. Typically, you'll see a sedentary college-aged individual with a VO2 max of maybe 35ml/kg/min, but that will drop as they age, assuming they maintain that level of inactivity. So with your age and a VO2 max of 40, that's really good! You must have had either a pretty high VO2 max to start with (genetics) or you did some good training throughout your life.
Lactate Threshold of 81% is very good as well! So you should be able to theoretically ride just under 81% of your maximum heart rate and still feel pretty good.
Resting HR of 44bpm is great. That's nice and low, where it should be.
I was a pro bodybuilder most of my life. Bicycling was an adjunct for my training. I sort of wish that I would have taken up the bicycle as a sport rather than as a hobby and training tool. I always knew I was a hell of a sprinter in my younger days, in fact, I still am. I can hit 40mph in a short flat sprint now.
That's great! Keep up the good work. I'm sure that if you took it up as a sport you would have been very good at it :)
