I've had a .mac account ever since day one and love how easy it is to host pics of bicycles and whatever. It's as simple as selecting the photos then clicking a button and there they are, nicely arranged on the internet for all to see.

Apple has decided to do away with the Gallery and give everyone free iCloud accounts instead. While you can put photos on the iCloud via Photostream, it does not appear that you can then hotlink them to BikeForums to show off your latest acquisition or project. Bummer.

Is there any other service that is similar to Apple's Gallery that doesn't look like ass or is a pain to use?

You can see my gallery here: http://gallery.mac.com/bbattle

You'll notice how the various albums of pics are laid out in a very easy to see manner and that if you mouse over the albums, you can see the individual pics inside each album. neat. I'd like something along these lines if possible. If not, I'll settle for what I can get.

Any suggestions?

I've been a Mac user since the mid-1980's, but I also use Windows. Personally, I have been pretty happy with what I am able to do with Picasa on Windows. I've not used it on the Mac side, so I don't know how good or bad that is. I'll be using it in the months to come, but in the mean time, here's another guy's $0.02 (http://onemansblog.com/2009/01/07/a-direct-comparison-of-picasa-for-mac-vs-iphoto/).

BTW I'd like to add that I have used iPhoto for some years, and I agree with the blog writer linked above in that I like Picasa. I think it is far better than iPhoto.

I'm really looking for a place to host my pictures online, not a replacement for iPhoto. I did not see anything in that review of Picasa that says it does that. I see that Flickr will host pics and I can do so from iPhoto.

Are there any other such sites?

check out Picasa Web Albums

I've been using it for years without problems, but I'm a light-duty user and don't ask it to do too much. No idea how it how it compares with Mac Gallery, but it is at any rate a place to host photos online. Presumably Flickr, Photobucket etc would get the job done too.

That is one main purpose of Picasa. Part of the benefit you receive with a Google account is 1 GB of free storage for your pictures, which are uploaded using Picasa.
