Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I need help figuring out if I can fit a Lefty fork on my Independent Fabrication Ti Deluxe 29er. The head tube length is 116mm so it seems that I am cramped for space. What headset manufacturer has the lowest stack height? I have spoken with the folks at IF and they think a 110mm head tube is the max if you want to use a lefty. Here is an email I received today from Jesse at IF:

"I just measured a Lefty that we have here, and I measured 137mm between the steerer clamps. So, if you subtract your head tube length (116mm) from 137mm, you're left with 21mm, and that's the maximum headset stack height that you can use to make a Lefty work with your frame.

A typical Chris King head set has a 31.4mm stack height, so 21mm is pretty small- I don't really know of any headsets that small off the top of my head.

I would say it's probably a good idea to start looking at other forks at this point, unfortunately! If you can find a head set with that small of a stack height, it might work, but this sort of rules out the Lefty in my book."

I am not opposed to traditional forks, I just want to give the lefty a try if I can fit it to my frame.

only an integrated headset.. but that requires the head-tube to be machined to fit.

It would have been better to ship your fork to IF and have them build a bike frame around it.

Try a crank Bros. headset, they have low stack hight.

Wait, does that include the stack height of a stem?

Might be direct mount to the top triple clamp.. [can't see a thing from here]

a machine shop may cut down the head-tube of the frame if within a few MM

I ordered the Crank Brothers Cobalt directset. Thanks for the tips, we will see if this solves my fitment issues.
